On Jan 6, as rioters stormed our capitol, I was being sworn in for my third term in the General Assembly, and my second as Democratic Floor Leader.
The day was full of pomp and circumstance. Lots of speeches and tradition.
In the middle of it all, a colleague came to me on the floor with their phone to show me what was happening in DC. As it progressed, more phones were out, people were distracted. Members started coming to me asking if we should leave. Were we safe?
Today, I was contacted because there are no foster placements to put some of Missouri's children who were taken out of the home due to abuse and/or neglect. For the past few months, when no beds are available, our hospitals have stepped in...
