Is teenage pregnancy a good thing? As feminists, should we promote it?

🧵 TL;DR: The answer of course is NO

But here is why…

‘Parents should be consulted on whether their daughters have access to contraception and abortion’ is actually an incredibly white feminist take There are lots of girls in the UK from highly traditional and/or religious communities who can’t go ‘hey mum, I know I’m 14 and everything but I’ve been shagging boys, can I go and get an implant?’ and have her go ‘well, if you’re sure, I’d rather you be safe!’

I’m so glad someone has finally taken a stand against BOATS I bloody hate boats. Especially cruise ships, actually. Very undignified things

Have ‘GRA repeal now’ and ‘remove GR as a protected characteristic from the EA’ campaigners had any political success or interest whatsoever? They seem to talk a big talk - that usually includes calling anyone who disagrees or thinks this is currently unrealistic: MRAs, handmaidens, pervert lovers, “AGP ball garglers” etc - but they never seem to be making any actual gains?

It’s worth reflecting on what happened in the early days of #nodebate, circa 2015-2018

Radical transactivists aggressively pushed their relatively new ideas about gender identity and self-ID, of course, and pushed for a blanket non-discussion attitude in public life As part of this, notably, they rounded on medicalised transsexuals, who they mocked as ‘trutrans’. The men who had been taking female hormones for decades, who had got all the surgeries, perhaps understandably felt they were more ‘trans’ than the likes of Danielle Muscato

I’m sure these people weren’t always unhinged like they are now. What has happened? Image ‘Why should I have to make a sound and considered case for my highly contentious political campaign?’

Er, because that’s how the world works, maybe?

‘Trans doesn’t exist, therefore trans must be eradicated’ is a very stupid analysis If trans doesn’t exist, then there’s nothing to change. God doesn’t exist. I don’t spend my days shaking my fist at the sky

One thing I have been thinking about recently is how men’s sexualisation of women and girls is so inescapable that at times we can’t actually defend against it, and just have to live Through this part of Twitter, I’ve seen some real grim fetish shit, and become more aware about how men sexualise underage girls in particular. And when you realise this, you can’t help but see potential for male perversion everywhere

I think this one makes the cruelty of Anna’s edgelord homophobic joke all the clearer. He is clearly struggling with it, he said it makes him sick to his stomach and he’s trying to distract himself Also, all the quotes are as usual calling her a radfem when she’s definitely an alt right edgelord, so yeah, unhelpful!

Feminists have been saying for a while that right-wing men don’t have our interests at heart. And yet so many of you seem to naively believe they do, deep down, even though they usually don’t even bother to lie about it Right-wing libertarians don’t think it’s acceptable to ask men not to use women’s spaces, because ‘freedom’. Right-wing social conservatives do, but not to protect women’s dignity and safety – rather, to uphold the traditional social order

My slightly controversial take is that Jess’s very left field position on psychiatry, in particular her focus on personality disorders not existing, is most likely total projection… ‘Personality disorders don’t exist, they are a way of falsely labelling women with trauma’

> is a woman with trauma who nonetheless acts like she has a personality disorder

I do get the drive to destigmatise STIs and STDs in principle. But I also worry that this sometimes blends into a sort of positivity and carelessness that just doesn’t reflect the very real risks I once saw something about a woman diagnosed with HIV who spoke candidly about the horrific stigma she faced. People framed it as something she had ‘done’, I think someone asked her if she was ashamed of what she had ‘done’ to her family

‘There is no middle ground when dealing with homosexuality. We must not stop until homosexuality is eradicated from public life entirely’

- if someone said this, and then tried to argue that they just want to make marriage ‘one man, one woman’, would you believe them? We are witnessing an uncomfortable slide into fascist-adjacent language, and if you can’t see that you’re a fool. Trying to pretend ‘transgenderism’ means ‘sex change policies’ is idiotic – nobody sensible believes you

Thinking about @cache_pas’s discussion yesterday about what constitutes a radical feminist, and the responses she got along the lines of ‘knowing that you can’t change sex’ and ‘not addressing a man as a woman or using the term transwoman’ These replies obviously looked very silly, but I actually wonder if this confusion is what’s behind a lot of the antifeminist bullshit (and refusal to accept criticism on this) we increasingly see from GCs and femalists

I would love to know how putting women and girls with XY chromosomes and complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS) in male prisons and other such spaces is about “safeguarding” 16-year-old Becky goes to the doctor due to her lack of period. It’s getting a bit late. Dr refers her for a scan

They find she has no uterus, and explain that she has XY chromosomes so will always be infertile. It’s a pretty traumatic and confusing thing to learn about yourself

I knew we would get here. I’m not surprised. I condemn this rhetoric totally

Let me just say to all the confused GCs, for the record: there isn’t a huge difference between ‘transgenderism must be eradicated’ and ‘trans people must be eradicated’ It’s like the difference between ‘homosexuality must be eradicated’ and ‘homosexuals must be eradicated’ – it’s not that significant. In the end, it means a v similar thing

Or, to use the inverse: ‘Christianity must be eradicated’ vs ‘Christians must be eradicated’

Sometimes, money is a means to an end. We all need money. I currently get most of my money from a big, woke American conglomerate, and I use this money to buy true food that I eat. Such is life Money is also the hand that feeds, though. And you don’t bite the hand that feeds. Which is why I can’t walk around the office ranting against capitalism and being a problematic TERF

This account has been spiralling into nutty hardline femalist dickheadry for a while, but she has really shown her ass with this As someone else said, treating intersex/DSD type issues as if they’re A) painfully simple and B) therefore worth rounding on a v. valuable GC biologist over… is just playing into TRA hands. TRAs use the complexity of DSDs to wedge in the ‘sex is complicated’ talk point

While it is unfair that they’re profiling her over actual fascist men who’ve protested DQSH and such, anyone who knows anything about the far right today knows that the trans issue has, in the last year or so, become really prominent. So if KJK acts as a magnet for these men… Then I’m not all that surprised antifash types want to profile her and keep an eye on her events. To be frank.
