James Hansen (@DrJamesEHansen) released a white paper today titled “Global Warming Acceleration: Hope vs Hopium.” The following thread summarizes some of the key points.

His “Global Warming in the Pipeline” peer-reviewed paper will publish next week. It provides an alternative view of climate vs what the IPCC says. He's not criticizing IPCC researchers but rather the IPCC procedures & product & lack of needed advice to protect young people. 2/11

@DrJamesEHansen, @MakikoSato6, Reto Ruedy, @LeonSimons8 published an article titled “El Nino Fizzles. Planet Earth Sizzles. Why?”
It says we may have already passed the 1.5ºC warming *trend*!
I summarize the key points below. 1/

September global temp was +1.7ºC relative to 1880-1920 or 0.5ºC more than previous record. But more important is that June-Sept was 0.44ºC more than same months in 2015 which was origin year for previous El Niño. 2/

James Hansen: "Improved knowledge of glacial-to-interglacial global temperature change implies that fast-feedback equilibrium climate sensitivity (ECS) is 1.2 ± 0.3°C (2σ) per W/m2."
ie, Our GHG emissions to date leads to 4.9ºC warming with only "fast feedbacks" considered!
"Equilibrium global warming including slow feedbacks for today’s human-made greenhouse gas (GHG) climate forcing (4.1 W/m2) is 10°C, reduced to 8°C by today’s aerosols."
ie, with long-term feedbacks, we are committed to 10ºC of warming, or a bit less if we keep polluting.

I asked #ChatGPT4 to explain #ClimateChange in the voice of #Shakespeare. The result is quite extraordinary:

Prithee, attend, thou gentle souls and wise,
To hear a tale of warming in our skies,
A change that doth the very earth beset,
And causeth all in sundry ways to fret.
