🧵 Are Uptown storefronts standing vacant because property taxes prevent landlords from cutting rents? That’s the reason an Uptown property owner cited in a recent TCB Mag story. But is it true? There wasn’t any vetting in the story (); let’s do that now! tcbmag.com/how-long-can-u…
Image 2/ The story features Jeff Herman, who owns the old Columbia Sportswear building (3016 Hennepin) & the old Apple Store (3018). 3016 pays $6.28 a square foot & is rented to a salon. 3018 - 9,942-sq-ft 3018 & vacant - pays $6.50/sqft. Rented or not, nothing pays $10/square.

To be more specific, Friedberg savaged Martha Holton Dimick. It starts about 2:45 into the podcast. “There’s one thing missing from all these endorsements - anybody who’s litigated with or in front of her has not endorsed her. The answer is very clear. …” 1/x 2/ “I started making calls to many people who I knew had been in front of her & dealt with her as a prosecutor. She was *without a doubt* as a judge, the nastiest, most overbearing, self-congratulatory that ever sat in Hennepin County.”

Minneapolis Ward comp 🧵 for Omar-Samuels. Please note; wards were redistricted this year, so not perfectly apples-to-apples, but the trends will be apparent. 2020 Ward map (1st image), 2022 Ward Map (2nd image) 1/X 2/ First off: Don Samuels lost the North side.
- Lost both wards.
- Lost Ward 5, his home ward, 56%-44%.
- Lost the other north side ward (4), 53%-47%

1/ Many of us are grieving the loss of choice throughout America - and it's no sure thing in Minnesota, either. The path to keeping abortion legal here runs through the suburbs. So I’m hosting a fundraiser for Shakopee legislative candidate @BradTabke Saturday 7/23 at 4:30 p.m. 2/ Brad is a former DFL legislator and former mayor of Shakopee, proudly pro-choice and really great on other economic & social issues. He lost his seat in 2020 when a Republican filed as a pot-party candidate; electing of the worst GOP legislators (Erik Mortensen, google him).

“This [Hennepin redesign] must be driven by metrics such as transit delay, speed, and reliability; corridor operations; and safety,” Frey said in his email - despite the findings from Kimely-Horn that showed a negative impact on the E line’s operation without dedicated lanes. … this is such a cool example of citizen journalism! @wyseapple used a public records request to detail how elected officials gaslit the public that “data” required subverting a transit improvement was subverted. Other media didn’t go nearly as deep. southwestvoices.news/posts/city-ema…

1/ Last night KSTP’s Jay Kolls - of #pointergate infamy - did a story on the US Capitol invasion. Despite direct links to President Trump & white supremacists, the story named only one group: Antifa. kstp.com/news/minneapol… (Pointergate primer here: journalmpls.com/voices/2014/11…) 2/ Kolls’ source is a local “security consultant” named Michael Rozin. “Rozin said there were some rioters inside the U.S. Capitol who used symbols & had tattoos which seem to be aligned with the ANTIFA movement,” adding, “Rep. Matt Gaetz also suggested ANTIFA may be involved.”

My friend Jon Kerr interviewed Coleman & Griffith in 1990 for his book “Calvin’s Last Dinosaur.” (Kindle/Amazon link, it’s cheap/free: amazon.com/Calvin-Basebal…). This was 12 years after Waseca & 6 years after Calvin sold the Twins. A few quotes from it: 1/ #griffithstatue 2/ Coleman went to Griffith’s Waseca speech with his father-in-law; he had neither tape recorder or pen/paper. “After the first couple of comments I realized I’m just gonna have to start salting some of these away because I’d never heard anybody talk like this.” #griffithstatue

Are you folks ready for the 2019 Target Field Concessions Price Analysis #TargetFieldFood? If no, please mute #TargetFieldFood because here it comes … Reminder: the #TargetFieldFood price spreadsheet was created for those who pay for concessions, unlike media folks who get free feedbags. I believe fans who fork over their hard-earned dough care about prices. I also chart dropped items, which write-ups rarely mention.
