Abolition 101:
Davis' Are Prisons Obsolete?
@MayaSchenwar & @LVikkiml Prison by Any Other Name
Policing the Planet @c_heatherton & @Jordan_T_Camp @dreanyc123's Invisible No More & Queer (In)Justice @prisonculture's We Do This 'Til We Free Us
Beyond Survival @thellpsx & @ejeris I don't mean to suggest these texts are basic or simple in any way, they are all quite nuanced and profound, but together I find them to introduce a lot of concepts and practices in accessible, grounded, complementary ways that make them a good starter kit.

I love these sobering observations about relationships from David Richo's book How to Be An Adult:
1. Intimate relationships survive best with constant permission for ever-changing ratios of closeness and distance.
2. No one can control/change someone else, nor is it necessary. 3. There is no one person who will make you happy, keep you fascinated, love you as your favorite parent did, or give you the love you missed from your parents.
4. Most people avoid or fear intimacy, consistent honesty, intense feelings and uninhibited joy.

I love the underlying abolitionist message of #ACAB, but "bastard" as an insult is part of a long racist, sexist, anti-poor history of stigmatizing people with unmarried parents. In the US, this stigma against unmarried parenting has been explicitly anti-Black, with illegitimacy laws used after Jim Crow to exclude Black children and families from programs and services.
