To counter the confusion between infection and disease, here's a thread on vaccines in the time of covid: 1) Vaccines are designed to prevent disease (symptoms). They are authorized and used based on their ability to prevent people from getting sick. 2) For some pathogens, including the COVID virus, people can become infected and pass the germ to others before they have symptoms/disease, or without ever having symptoms.  3) Ideally, we want vaccines to prevent disease and the infection itself so it can’t be passed to others.
