This story is nuts ...

Liz Truss was warned BY HER OWN GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS that the Australian and New Zealand trade deals would COST BRITISH JOBS.

But the Department for International Trade kept it a secret and insisted the deals were amazing. Interesting blog in light of this that went up this morning from @levell_peter of @TheIFS which argues the govt needs to be UP FRONT with sectors about the risks increased imports could have on their jobs and communities so that people can prepare.

From the excellent @estwebber and me

Britain likes to think of itself as whiter than white when it comes to corruption ... but the actions of the current government have dented that reputation.

politico.eu/article/great-… “My personal view is it’s teetering on the edge,” said corruption expert @CSC_barrington.

Everything you ever wanted to know about the whole Brexit/Turkey situtation but were afraid to ask - with exclusive comments from Turkish ambassador to London Ümit Yalçın.

politico.eu/article/uk-tur… Interesting point: If Turkey signs an FTA with the UK but the UK fails to sign an FTA with the EU it would breach the customs union agreement between Turkey and the EU. Confusing three-way trade triangle, I know.)

🚨🚨But Yalçın left the door open to doing exactly that. 🚨🚨

I interviewed @KateOsamor and she said all this headline-making stuff to me. Now she and Labour are trying to argue she was somehow misrepresented. (An attempt at a thread follows) The problem is – she said all that stuff. Read the quotes and the full interview. All the context is explained and all the caveats she put in I made sure I included.
