Let me tell you about my job market paper, “Investment, Emissions, and Reliability in Electricity Markets” (jonathantelliott.com/files/elliott_…): 2/ The electricity industry is responsible for a quarter of CO2 emissions. The solution to this problem is more renewables, but these sources are intermittent. In my JMP, I study how to design an electricity market that is both clean and not prone to (very costly!) blackouts.
