We found that higher levels of GFAP, an #astroglial marker, were related to higher glucose metabolism 🧠in early stages of #Alzheimer's, especially when GFAP was measured in blood🩸
link.springer.com/article/10.100… This suggests that a higher astrocytic reactivity in early stages of Alzheimer's, probably in response to #amyloid accumulation, is related to higher glucose consumption. This may (in part) explain why we see higher levels of glucose metabolism in these early stages.
