Seasonal walk through 100 years of Belgian architecture around that giant tree ornament, avenue Circulaire in Uccle. Starts at the red dot (square Charles Lagrange). A few detours. Ends in a pub. Perfect for a Sunday. Image Looking north, down ave Houzeau. On the left, the Villa Vandevelde, a seam of snowy modernism with gold trim for the son of a coalmine owner. By father & son team Adrien & Yvan Blomme, 1936. The year before they landed the gig for the new Gare du Midi. ImageImage

The view from the roof terrace of the future Belgian Beer World, which will open in the old #Brussels stock market in 2023. Probably. Fingers crossed. No biggie. (Thanks @anthonyzach for the tip - I have sunstroke but am happy). Why pay a fortune to see Rodin stuff in Paris, when you can get a good look at his work in #Brussels as you head upstairs for a beer? #Boosterism

1905 rental flats, Schaerbeek. Inside were a mix of 3 pièces en enfilade for the petite bourgeoisie and bedsitters for workers behind. Early tenants included a language teacher, a lieutenant and a dramatic artist. The workers names are not recorded. #Brussels The four blocks were started as an investment by an architect and completed on behalf of the marquis de Grellet. The ghostly sgraffites are by Paul Cauchie. They can be admired from the doorway of Lidl.

For railhead followers. Abandoned platforms at the 1884 Gare de la Chaussée de Louvain in #Brussels. One of the 5 original halts between the Luxembourg and North stations. It closed to harassed, overheated commuters in 1924 and is now the home to cool jazz (sorry). There's a nice little park with benches alongside from which to admire the old access stairs. But watch yourself on the spiky plants. I didn't, ow.
