The Amazon EC2 Console now has a new & improved launch experience, with all options and settings on one page! Here's a quick threaded tour, starting with all sections folded. I enter a name, and have the option to set more tags (instance count is to the right), 1/7 Then I choose the desired AMI. Let's do a quick Friday recap of three important #AWS database launches & previews from earlier this week -- Babelfish, AWS Glue Elastic Views, and Aurora Serverless v2.... Babelfish for Aurora PostgreSQL is a SQL Server-compatible end-point for PostgreSQL so you can easily migrate from SQL Server to Aurora. It understands T-SQL and speaks the TDS protocol, and will be released under the Apache 2.0 license!

I know that most of you follow me because of what I share about AWS. I do try to aim for a mix of 80% work and 20% other, and this tweet thread is going to be the latter. I have no idea where it will go, but I need to say something. (1/21) The events of the last couple of weeks have shaken me to my core. In times like these we are supposed to be able to look to our leaders for some reassurance and some guidance, but that's not going to happen. We need to change. (2/21)

My newest LEGO project - a Launch Utility Tower (LUT), scaled to match the popular LEGO Saturn V set. The tower was designed by a super-fan and is made up of about 8500 pieces! I spent 1.5 months getting parts from my collection and ordering many more, and then organized them all in a recently-vacated basement room:

Late last month we launched a very helpful self-service management feature for Amazon WorkSpaces. Users can change their running mode, compute type, and disk size. A very nice update to Amazon Rekognition: improved face detection, analysis, and recognition capabilities in challenging conditions. Detect 40% more faces, match faces with 30% better accuracy, and get improved attributes (age, gender, emotion).
