Just watched James Somerton’s “apology” vid & it feels deeply emotionally manipulative. I’m not going to question the truth of his hospitalization, but an apology is about your victims & who you hurt. Instead, he spends 5 whole min talking about vids he STILL wants to make. Again, if he was truly suicidal, I hope he is getting help. But that’s not what a video like this is about. Especially when you START the video with that. And it’s certainly not about trying to make a case to turn your videos back on and the more videos you want to make.

Since we’re talking James Somerton, one reason I was upset last year when he said “Nebula left him unread”, was that I personally invited him to a discord server with Nebula folks in it and told him to contact them, which I 100% know he never did. He just wanted to play victim. Honestly small potatoes compared to his plagiarism & misogyny. I was more upset when he erased queer folks on Nebula by saying it had “no queer content”. It spoke to how he only saw his voice as worthy for LGBTQ folks. The many queer women/enbies on Nebula didn’t count to him.

Since people are doing intentional context collapse on this, this vid IS about why I support the strike. I’ve been to the picket line numerous times before/since & still do videos such as the one at the end of this chain about how the strikes are DEEPLY needed. Second… (1/4) This was on how SAG reps (not SAG) ignored us for weeks, forced me to drive hours only to give me false info, misgendered me, only respected my cis producer, denied us for “nudity/minors” when there is none, cost my crew a week of unstruck paid work. This hurts the strike (2/4)

There is a reason so many trans folk are relating to Spider-Gwen's story, and it's not because "HEY, SHE HAS TRANS COLORS BEHIND HER IN A SCENE". While, yes, we NEED more EXPLICIT trans characters, trans folks love Gwen because her story is steeped in queer and trans themes.(1/3) The tangible signifiers like the trans colors and the "TRANS KIDS" poster in her room are nice signals to a trans audience that reading into her is safe and that the artists are trans-supportive, but they aren't the real reason trans people are so attached to her (2/3)

You do have to love the constant demands on civility on trans people's part. Matt Walsh is allowed to dehumanize trans bodies, call us fetishes, freaks, and deformed. Yet I make a silly dumb joke about his beard being mid (it is), I'm the horrible person who should be dismissed. Image It's the constant "BE CIVIL" in the face of violence & hate to dismiss trans people over and over again. Do I worry sometimes videos humor pushed some away? At times. But to dismiss trans folk's humanity cause I made lame XMen jokes is demanding kindness in the face of genocide.

The idea of “male socialization” is a bullshit narrative used often to dehumanize trans people. One of the major main roots of this idea, at least in modern cultural discourse around trans women though the concept goes back much much further, trace back literally to the TERF book “The Transsexual Empire”.

Twitter removes context, further elaboration, and dialogue in a way that continually stokes antagonism, often at minorities, through reinforcing implicit assumptions of power made invisible to those who get pissed & claim victimhood, who then blame minorities for their own harm. This has always been so but more under Musk. It shows how to cancel culture narratives based on dehumanizing each other in convos ultimately feed capitalist engagement and implicit societal hierarchies that those who benefit from, even progressives, find hard to introspect on.

I made a single tweet today. A single damn tweet because I saw friends of mine in actual pain and disillusionment cause of how certain voices were put down. But then, after one tweet, I’m somehow “uncaring about trans murder, ruining the discourse, ect…” And my tweet was just expressing “hey, maybe use another hashtag.”. That’s it, it’s that fucking simple. It’s easy to do actually. But nope, this because the god damn topic of the day. People just want drama.

Please use #DignityForBrianna instead of using hashtag SayHerName to mourn Brianna Ghey. That hashtag is for Black folks killed by police violence, for that community to mourn & fight. We white folks shouldn’t steal it, especially as all of us (not just white folks) are mourning. First, after listening Black folks, the issue is how quickly white people coopted the use of this hashtag. Second, how white folks got angry when this was pointed out, and would rather argue then listen, which feeds to drain us both of energy and ability to mourn. Third - (2/3)

I have people who send their audiences to me saying "take the L" after they disingenuously frame my POV. No, I will not. It's not about winning. Trans people are dying, it's about fighting to thrive. They say "I make trans folks look bad" but wanna know what looks bad? (1/2) What looks bad is when you air straw man grievances in public for content, putting down fellow creators to get clicks instead of building community. This is not praxis nor fighting for our safety. It's doing what those in power want us to do &using their system to harm ourselves.

I’m so damn tired of the constant manufactured disingenuous framing of my words constantly. It goes from BuzzFeed and Bloomberg all the way down to streamers. This is why I make 3 he vids, so I’m CLEAR about my points. Yet people just want the “ANGRY PURITANICAL TRANS” narrative. Then when I speak up about it, I’m told I’m “doing harm to the community” but bringing it up, as if I’m not allowed to defend myself from people falsely using mg words. It’s gaslighting, angering and isolating at a time when trans people need community. Fucking angering.

🧵So, be honest. I'm doing ok now. But these past 48 hours have been deeply emotionally difficult. I dealt with a lot of harassment using a franchise that once was close to me. I had death threats and endless dehumanization. And I'm not the only trans person who did. (1/5) Worse, I saw others signal or even say they didn't care. Or blame me for themselves feeling conflicted about wanting to play a game, saying I was calling them a bigot... which I did not. I said don't claim to be an ally. Why you did. Besides the point. Anyways- (2/5)

As a trans advocate and person, I am not here to tell you if you’re a good or bad person. I am not here to moralize for you or at you. I don’t want that big, nor is it my job. My job is tell you about how trans lives are impacted by society & your potential choices within them. I will tell you the harm that is caused or could be caused. I will tell you about the things that can help us. I will share you my experience and uplift the voices of others as best I can. I will share my joys. I will tell you how I feel. What you do with that is on you.

"ACTIVISTS ARE CALLING US TRANSPHOBES FOR BUYING HARRY POTTER! IM NOT A BAD PERSON; I JUST WANNA PLAY A WIZARD GAME."

Buying HP stuff doesn't make you a transphobe. What IT IS saying is that you care more for entertainment than trans people. It says you're not an ally. HOW DARE ANYONE IMPUNE ON MY MORAL PURITY AS A PERSON! SCREW YOU.

People desire to be told they aren't bad and can't cause harm/support harmful systems. It causes an existential crisis that often resolves by blaming the person who makes them feel bad; IE a marginalized person.

People point to issues in Harry Potter like Cho Chang’s name or antisemetic tropes for goblins as signs that Rowling is bad. But to me, while those are worth criticism; the bigger issue is Rowling’s lack of desire to hear critique. Artist screw up; great artists grow up. Take Neil Gaiman; I adore his Sandman comics, but they have probs. While he did have supportive stories, trans folks are often brutally murdered or die. But in his TV series, he improved these aspects. Rowling; in her Fantastic Beasts movies; doubled down on the probs.

Sorry to talk this again but I want to be clear. I don’t boycott Harry Potter because it gives Rowling money. She’s got money. The reason to not support HP is she uses it to stay relevant & argues that its continued popularity is a sign that her antitrans hate is valid. This is why when I see people say “well with Hogwarts Legacy, she might not make money on every sale and she isn’t involved in the writing”. It sadly doesn’t matter. Rowling argues peoples support of HP is a sign that her views are correct; which it isn’t and they aren’t.

So I'm seeing a few people argue against leftist creators having Patreons, saying is discriminatory against those who can't pay it. I 100% agree. It's frustrating, cause I appreciate my patrons so much. If I didn't have them, I couldn't do what I do, cause I couldn't pay bills. It's how capitalism makes us all complicit. We have to partake in some level of asking our audiences to help support us, because if we didn't, we couldn't do this in our society today. Ideally, artists/creators could just create without worry.

The thing to understand about anti-fans of shows like SheHulk, who often say they’re “real fans”, is you can’t change their mind. Their assumption of quality comes BEFORE the show & engagement filters through that starting premise, not informing opinion, but validating it. (1/3) This isn’t to say there aren’t valid critiques, or someone can’t validly dislike a show. But there’s a difference between one’s whose opinion is informed by a work by engaging with it, and one who filters their engagement through a presumption of quality. (2/3)

How TERF radicalization occurs (thread):

White privileged women like Rowling hit a point where they are forced to recon with with the fact that they perpetuated racist/transphobic/homophobic systems. This was unintentional on their part as we live in a systemically injust world. However, these women are aware they are marginalized themselves (“I FACED MISGOINY THANK YOU VERY MUCH!”) which is often rooted in very real trauma in their past (like assault or harassment). So they face an existential crisis-

So I need to say this. People are asking me if Star Trek Strange New Worlds or a new Doctor Who show runner will “unite” those splintered fandoms. While certainly new directions can be interesting and positive- (1/9) the creators who express only anger at these franchises on platforms like YouTube will never admit anything from a long running franchise that they’ve been yelling about for years is good. They literally can’t. (2/9)
