How to build a successful newsletter?

I listened to "Lessons From a $1M/yr Newsletter", a discussion between @nathanbarry & @fortelabs .

Some insights I gathered

🧵 Think of newsletter as a stadium.

A stadium has many entrances. Your newsletter should also have many entrances.

- Homepage
- Subscribe Forms in every post
- Middle of popular posts
- Subscribe links in your newsletter

But @fortelabs doesn't have pop-up forms.

What skill will be in demand as we grow into remote work more and more?

What skill should you develop, if you want to stay in your hometown but work for big companies?

If you thought "coding" you are wrong.

It would be #writing
🧵 We already write emails, slack messages, basecamp threads. In remote working, it is only going to increase.

Here is a simple formula to make you a writing LION.

LION is an acronym. It stands for:

Learning
Innovate
Outwork
Network

If you want to last longer in a field, focus on fundamental principles governing it

🧵 We get carried by the visible. They are easy to debate, discuss, and dissect.

- fonts and colors on your website instead of content
- camera, lenses instead of principles of photography
- Jira (or Basecamp) instead of training in project mgmt

All are pretentious veneer
