This La Presse cartoon is vile, explicit antisemitism.

Nosferatu was embraced by the Nazis, a depiction of Jews as vermin-like parasites feeding off gentiles.

3 years after Nosferatu’s release, Hitler published Mein Kampf with multiple references to the Jews as vampires. The depiction of Nosferatu inspired the antisemitic cartoons of Der Stürmer and other organs of Nazi propaganda.

The La Presse cartoonist and his editors could not plausibly be ignorant of these obvious facts. To the contrary, a deliberate choice was made to use the obvious

2/ Ironically, Russia is now selling the US 840,000 barrels of oil per day, which is *exactly* the amount of Canadian oil that Keystone XL would deliver to the US.

At the same time, the US administration has lifted sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline to Western Europe.

It is disturbing and to see large numbers of people gathering this weekend at Bowden in flagrant violation of COVID-19 public health measures. We are all sick of this. We all want it to end. Thousands of Albertans are following the rules, sacrificing travel and social gatherings to do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19.

1/ Yesterday a protestor was arrested for shouting racial insults at a First Nations woman on Enoch Reserve.

Dozens of protestors also trespassed on reserve land, & Chief Morin’s car was vandalized.

Today protestors at the Legislature called for Dr. Hinshaw to be “locked up.” 2/ They also chanted “just say no” to vaccines.

Albertans respect the freedoms of speech and protest. But breaking the law, trespassing, threats and intimidation go too far.

I condemn these actions and statements. It is increasingly clear that many involved in these protests

This vandalism of our history and heroes must stop.
