Update: I am not opening this bottle now— but I am very much looking forward to drinking it later tonight. There’s probably an interesting paper to write about self-identity, intersubjective identity, and prospect of Fox calling PA for Biden first.

“Are we a news organization? Or are we a malevolent infotainment organization that only makes money by extorting cable operators?”

After 2.5 hrs of sleep, I am nervous but when I consider how my 2016 experience shades my perception of the numbers I come to the conclusion that there is cause for optimism re: Trump; but cause for concern Re Senate. Especially when I look at my prediction map and see that so far I’ve called every state correctly, though that doesn’t make me some sort of something, it just means there haven’t been any crazy shocks.

I bought a bottle of good, real champagne for the evening.

I realize I might have jinxed it and cost us all our collective future; but otoh I can also use it to break over my own head if I did personally blow it for Biden.

(For now, it's a gimlet with fresh lime) I'm also quite sure that I'll end up in tears (hopefully of relief) at some point tonight, and I am not really a cryer.

Mood of day = (probably overly) cautious optimism. Prediction #1.

(Don’t read too much h into the particular shades; my chubby fingers had a hard time w the map.)

OK friends. I'm going to live-tweet this Trump CovidFestival that just started in Florida. I tune in in time for a chant of "we love you." Trump replies that he loves the people and promises them we "won't be a socialist nation."

Oh, and apparently Biden says he'll repeal the 2nd Amendment.

bc POTUS's are dictators or something.

Question 1: Covid. Who could imagine this would be a question.

Trump. Immediately goes for 2.2 million would have died if we did nothing. China. “A vaccine is ready. It’s going to be announced within weeks.” “Some people would say [what I was given] was a cure.” We’ve also done a lot with goggles. “It will go away. It’s going away.”

Cripes.

Pence is reciting the plan that exists only in his and Trump's mind. And humor is not really Pence's strongsuit.

1. I had not realized that my quasi-intellectual exercise, somewhat philosophical question, about if it would be worth Trump resigning in exchange for a pardon, would blow up my mentions.

So to clarify what I actually think about this question. 1) Trump is not going anywhere until January.

2) Yes I realize that he couldn't be pardoned for state crimes; and that there wouldn't even be enough time to charge him let alone pardon him.

But...

I will be watching #DNC2020 on CNN until the first commercial and then will switch to C-Span. That was so moving and sad... and yet hopeful.

Trump's hate rally is starting right now and I'll live-tweet it here for awhile. He is in my home state of PA. He begins by saying "we are respected again"... only days after being the laughingstock of NATO.

Such a pleasure to hear from and meet former USFK Commander General Vincent Brooks at @koreasociety this evening. I’ll post a brief summary in this thread a bit later this evening. Tomorrow at 10 am (my time) GSOMIA (a bilateral intelligence sharing agreement between Japan and South Korea) expires as a result of ROK withdrawal.

1. When Trump made his first visit to East Asia I was very concerned that President Moon had served Trump some traditional Korean food.

I thought that Abe had played it exactly right— golf, overcooked hamburger, and fries. 2. But in the end, they’re both democratically elected leaders and part of a system of states with shared values including respect for the rule of law (domestically and internationally). And that’s too much for Trump to bear.

Nunes is auditioning to host a show on RT after he leaves Congress. Nunes: And now I will read an entirely different call, not at all at issue for these hearings. And I will not take into account the power imbalance between the two countries.

OK fine. I will live-tweet Trump's speech in Ohio that is supposed to start any moment. But I'm opening a can a wine to do it. (That's right, you heard correctly. It's a can of Underwood Pinot Gris.)
