Far-right politicians love to quote the Bible when it’s convenient for the argument they’re attempting to make (or argue against). However, what we have today are versions of texts that have been translated from either Hebrew or Greek by a committee. What can they tell us? A 🧵. These texts were not created in a vacuum. Rather, they were influenced by their cultural context. Biblical texts were translated from original Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament) into other languages. That’s right, Jesus didn’t speak English and was a practicing Jew.

When I worked at the @TNHouseReps, almost everyone there knew a woman or an intern who was being sexually harassed by a Representative or had a Rep cross the line with them.
