🧵 I am extraordinarily proud of my country & the spirit and resistance of my people. But for folks abroad, please be careful not to flatten this into a narrative of a scrappy army of badasses led by their relatable, lovable leader. This is a very real war.
My parents and I are on the phone with our friends and family members everyday. They are hiding in bomb shelters, in their basements, in their pantries as air raids sirens ring out every night. They are watching explosions out their windows as missiles fire down onto our cities.

This thread is an excellent response to this problematic article and I would highly recommend reading through it. One specific aspect that alarmed me in the op-ed was the patronizing language used and I want to expand on that a bit
