I have interviewed a lot of #designers and #researchers this year. This is my round up of some of the issues I have seen in the industry in 2020:
1. Roughly 80% of the designers I speak to say something like “I haven’t had much opportunity to think about accessibility”...
Many organisations have cultural issues meaning they don’t prioritise accessibility. As a single designer, you can’t fix everything. But you always have the opportunity to make something more accessible than it otherwise would be if you don’t educate yourself or try at all.

This comment on a thread regarding psychological safety at work is... concerning.
It means: “Putting pressure on teams gets them to work faster and harder!”
I’ve known managers with this attitude, so lets talk about why in my experience it doesn’t work.
If you’ve ever had a manager who believed these things then you’ve experienced it yourself:
* “Teams never reach goals, but the harder you stretch the goal the more you’ll get out of them”
* “Let’s bring the deadline forward by 4 weeks so we can squeeze more work in after!”

Design leaders of twitter! Do you get given a hard time for not being "hands on" anymore?
I can build a high performing team in less than 6 months *and* increase your turnover. But mention that I haven't wireframed recently and suddenly I am getting looks of actual pity.
People don't expect Chief Design Officers to be building prototypes inbetween meetings with the board. Do they?
Does that make the CDO less of a designer?
At what point in one's career is it considered reasonable that you might *just* do (lol, just) management and strategy?
