Texas Senate is voting on final passage of Senate Bill 8, which would effectively ban abortions after about 6 weeks of pregnancy (when fetal heartbeat can be detected). #txlege
The bill passes with a vote of 19-12...almost a party-line vote.
Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr., D-Brownsville, typically votes with Republicans on anti-abortion legislation. He spoke in favor of the measure from the floor.
Texas Senate is taking up SB 3 from Sen. Schwertner, which he says "comprehensively addresses the root issues" behind the power outages that swept the state.
Here is a summary of the legislation: capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/87R/an…#txlege
This bill touches a number of issues #txlege lawmakers want to act on this session, including creating an energy emergency alert, requiring weatherization at natural gas facilities & pipelines and requiring various agencies responsible for energy delivery to coordinate.
