Bret Weinstein, member of Florida's Public Health Integrity Committee, appears to endorse AIDS denial in this clip. It seems very important to clarify his stance on whether HIV causes AIDS. AIDS deniers have advised governments before. Over 300K South Africans died because of it. journals.lww.com/jaids/Fulltext…

From what I can gather, there's been some internecine feuding of late.

McCullough and Malone's Twitter accounts were recently reinstated, having been removed for violating Covid misinfo policies. McCullough immediately blocked Malone. Malone threatened to sue a bunch of (vaccine opposed) people/orgs for defamation. He is suing for $25M in damages, claiming defendants tarnished his reputation in medical community, losing him "business and income" and "prospects for career advancement."

Martin Kulldorff is part of Ron DeSantis committee issuing public health recs to "counter the CDC" and comes up in the Twitter Files.

He was an advisor to the FDA and CDC on vaccine safety when the Covid vaccines were first evaluated. He was removed from the position advising the CDC because he published an op-ed making policy recommendations prior to complete review of data (according to a statement published in the Federalist).

The @COVIDOversight Committee just released a report on the Trump admin's embrace of a herd immunity strategy, outlining the role of Scott Atlas and other Stanford Professors in promoting the strategy. Reading now and thread to follow here!
coronavirus.house.gov/sites/democrat… As a start, Atlas' first contact with Trump admin on Covid was March 21st, calling their initial response "a massive overreaction" to a pathogen that would only kill "about 10,000". His source for that was Dr. John Ioannidis of Stanford.

SCOTUS on Monday will hear arguments in a dispute that could restrict or even eliminate the EPA’s authority to control the pollution that is heating the planet.

This effort is supported the same groups that fought Covid precautions like vaccine mandate.
nytimes.com/2022/02/27/cli… And yes, direct links to the Great Barrington Declaration and Brownstone Institute too.

The New Civil Liberties Alliance fought to lift the eviction moratorium. With affidavits from Jay Bhattacharya & Martin Kullforff, it's brought multiple cases against vaccine mandates. Image

The Hoover Institution is a right wing thinktank on Stanford's campus.

Its Director, Condoleezza Rice, announced plans to increase its interactions w Stanford scientists who "don't know us very well."

So, let's get to know Hoover's (pseudo)science🧵
stanforddaily.com/2022/02/25/fac… Rice also presented Hoover’... Hoover Fellow and climate change denier Fred Singer was a textbook example of how contrarian scientists work with right wing thinktanks to stoke denialism for decades — literally, Merchants of Doubt by @NaomiOreskes and @ErikMConway focuses on his work.

The authors of the Great Barrington Declaration met with a very receptive White House twice, including on the day the GBD was published.

They also had a secret meeting with the President & VP in August we didn't find out about until a year later.
The day after the Augusr meeting, the President described his strategy: "sheltering those at highest risk, especially the elderly, while allowing lower risk Americans to safely return to work and to school...they have to get back to work."

Really phenomenal talk by @ChihFuYeh yesterday for @StanfordBioPhD about his experienced being denied admission to a scientific program based on his Taiwanese nationality and the lesson he learned in his righteous fight against unjust, exclusionary policies. @ChihFuYeh's key takeaways:

1) science and politics are not separable. scientists being silent to injustice is also a political message and action.

2) individual action matters. Small actions could be amplified nonlinearly in an unpredictable way.

In addition to the attack on @PeterHotez, Jay Bhattacharya illustrates a new and especially damaging tactic here.

The reason he gives for why we shouldn't trust Dr. Hotez is that he receives funding from NIAID, which is directed by Dr. Fauci. He's been building up to this for weeks, arguing that Dr. Fauci is using his position at NIAID to selectively fund projects that advance his agenda. ImageImageImageImage

Corporate interest groups are working with and amplifying contrarian scientists to undermine our Covid response. It's a huge problem.

I want to talk about two common mistakes people make when they talk about this.
First, some background 👇

exposedbycmd.org/2021/12/22/how… 1) The contrarian scientists don't necessarily have profit motives.

Strategy is to find scientists already making arguments that serve you and don't want to be paid bc they're ideologically tied to the position.

In case you missed it, my presentation for @SciSpeakUp yesterday last night on debunking scientific misinfo for social media (drawing on the Debunking Handbook & work of @STWorg @johnfocook @UlliEcker).

And, in thread form...
Scientific misinformation is harmful.

150K+ unvaccinated Americans have died of COVID19 since the vaccine became widely available.

Decades of delay and inaction lost us valuable time in responding to & mitigating the climate crisis.

First off, we have Peter McCullough who's being sued by former employer for falsely claiming affiliation w them after entering into a separation agreement while making statements they allege are likely to cause “irreparable reputational & business harm.”
medpagetoday.com/special-report… In July 2021, as Delta wave was kicking off, McCullough went on Fox to say there's "no clinical reason to get vaccinated."

Stanford's Jay Bhattacharya is testifying before Congress on Covid misinformation right now. His recent tweets about Covid vaccines make it pretty clear he's an expert on the topic. He has worked directly with groups that profit off Covid misinfo, including America's Frontline Doctors

Dr. Scott Atlas...was involved in making changes to CDC’s testing guidance, which was abruptly changed on August 24, 2020, to assert—contrary to scientific consensus—that most asymptomatic people should not be tested even if they were exposed to someone with the virus. Two days later, he organized a secret meeting between President Trump and the three scientists who went on to co-author the Great Barrington Declaration (Jay Bhattacharya, Martin Kulldorff, and Sunetra Gupta). Did this come up?

Stanford's Jay Bhattacharya has served as an expert witness in many cases opposing mask mandates and other Covid restrictions. Multiple judges have pointed to major flaws in his testimony. A thread. A judge in Tennessee called his testimony on masks in schools "troubling and problematic" and found that he "oversimplified conclusions" of at least one study.

Professor Jay Bhattacharya of Stanford, where I study infectious diseases, submitted evidence defending Cobb County, GA School District's mask optional policy, which is being challenged under the Americans With Disabilities Act.
eastcobbnews.com/cobb-county-sc… Cobb County is right next to where I grew up. Many of my friends and their families are from there. Their parents work in those schools.

Stanford's silence as fringe contrarians on faculty continue to attack basic public health measures is endangering people I love.

What is it with this group of Stanford professors dismissing the work of grad students based on their Google Scholar citation counts?

Gross credentialism sending a signal that grad students' work is not valued here. Irony.

Paul Alexander, the Trump science advisor who pushed for a Forced Infection strategy, is arguing that no one under 70 who is "healthy" should get vaccinated. Published by AIER, the thinktank that brought us the Great Barrington Declaration. So I guess he still wants us infected. Image Alexander is currently under congressional investigation due to evidence he participated in political interference to change CDC reports, specifically downplaying the risk of COVID in young people.

It is deeply frustrating to me to see this @Stanford faculty member and @HooverInst fellow spreading harmful medical advice. This directly contradicts our own campus' guidelines, which are keeping him safe. Image I wrote a satirical piece on the rank hypocrisy of this behavior last November. These men are publicly whining about public health measures that the rest of us at @Stanford are keeping them safe by following.
