“By [Monday] afternoon, members of one of the largest anti-lockdown groups in Melbourne were encouraging others to attend, and by Tuesday, the same group, led by serial protest organiser Harrison McLean, was pushing its own “Workers Rally for Freedom”. theguardian.com/australia-news… This is such an important story, and a lesson: these groups grow by absorbing or sort of ‘hooking in’ to existing discontents, existing weaknesses, people who are already angry about something. What was interesting this time was the use of Telegram as an accelerant @ChrisAgius13

The Shrine of Remembrance is not the usual hangout for union members protesting something.

It is, however, precisely the place that nationalistic, right-wing “freedom fighters” who met on telegram would head to. I’ve logged off their chats and live feeds for now, but can confirm the telegram home of the Melbourne “freedom fighters” has passed 10K.

It was 6K on Friday, before the lockdown protest they organised.

So they’ve gained 4,000 people in 5 days. This is not the CFMEU kids.

Australia: this is just embarrassing.

There is no connection between 5G and coronavirus. Bill Gates is not planning to microchip you.

One in eight of us is just plain WRONG about coronavirus. newcastleherald.com.au/story/6762143/… I have a PhD, have written a book on evolution of digital networks, & used to work at Ericsson.

Let me tell you about the electromagnetic spectrum the 5G protestors are worried about. I do this every year for students.

It’s incredible. Almost every device you own uses it.

I’m on 3AW at about 8:05 today talking about the government’s proposed use of the Trace Together app. Here’s summary:

1. It uses Bluetooth not GPS, which is good for privacy but remember due to data retention our government has access to all your GPS data anyway 2. My main concern is not with contact tracing. It’s a good idea.

My concern is government has a history of using our data for purposes other than what it’s intended it for (eg catching journalists rather than national security).

I’m worried about *future use* after covid

(Reasonably) educated thread about the options global companies like Apple have going forward now the #aaBill will happen in Australia.

I’ll start with my assumptions then explain their options #Auspol Assumptions:

1. Company will not compromise its core business strategy. Eg: for Apple this is sell devices/storage that are guaranteed to be secure. To point they won’t let the FBI in.
