1/6 Our 🌎 is heating and losing crucial carbon sinks. (Look at the #Amazon!)

🌳Tackling climate change means decarbonizing the economy but also recarbonizing our ecosystems
🦥I'm looking at the role of mammals in this task

But wait, mammals absorb CO2?⬇️
#DICECON21 #ConEffect 2/6 Well no *but* they mediate carbon flux:

Grazing by🦌🦘can stimulate🌿growth (more CO2 absorbed). Too much grazing does the opposite!

🐺🦁 influence plant growth by keeping 🦌 in check.
Meanwhile🐰 can ⬆️ soil carbon by digging. So much going on!

A hospital near Moscow mixed up two patients, one of them died and his body handed over to the wrong family who buried him only to found out their real grandpa was alive. But because his only document is a death certificate he can't leave the hospital.
novayagazeta.ru/articles/2021/… Seeing this went viral, a couple more anecdotal details: when the family was picking up the (wrong) corpse, they actually said, this is not our grandpa. But hospital staff convinced them, saying the facial bones shift after death.

My first story from Yakutia, with great pictures by @AFPMladen. Troubling times for people living in Soviet-era houses built on permafrost without climate change in mind. news.yahoo.com/siberian-regio… This is how people study permafrost in the Permafrost Institute's freezing underground lab: they cut the permafrost cylinders like sausage.
