Everyone, Cade Horton is in Myrtle Beach because the Cubs no doubt wanted to avoid the early Midwest League cold weather with him. They didn't draft him 7th overall and watch him throw with this stuff during the spring and say to themselves what this guy needs is to blow away a bunch of over matched teenagers.
This season is about protecting his arm and stretching him out gradually.

Good for Tommy Nance.
Perseverance.
30-year old getting his first MLB shot.
He's got the talent to stick. Nance made a good first impression in High-A in 2016 after signing out of Indy ball.
Then missed all of 2017.
Pitched okay in limited action at AA in 2018 as he struggled to stay healthy.
Had up-and-down 2019, again in AA, more minor injury.

It's almost like... players are having a hard time adjusting to playing real games for the first time since September of 2019.
Amazing. My anecdotal viewing of the Minors so far this year:
Velo is up.
Breaking balls are inconsistent, but the top end is as good or better than ever.
Control is abysmal.
Hitters are struggling with the velo.
Few guys are adjusting to offspeed well.
Everyone is rusty on defense.

#Cubs Prospect Thread: 2B Chase Strumpf
The Cubs 2nd round pick this year. Strumpf struggled early in his final collegiate season, which likely cost him chance at 2st round, before finishing strong. He's been an XBH machine since turning pro.
1/ Relies on compact swing and a discerning eye at the plate. Can pull his hands inside, and possesses good barrel control. Capable of going with pitches the other way and back up the middle. Will foul off pitches and rarely chase so he's a tough out.

@CubsDen Top 20 #Cubs Prospect - April Status Check:
1. Nico Hoerner:📈He's done everything you could ask of a player making the jump to AA in his first full pro season (.293/.388/.483, 154 wRC+, 10.4 BB%, 11.9 K%). Currently out, but due back soon after getting hit on the wrists 2. Miguel Amaya: The rough edges on a 20-year old show at times on passed balls and in the .200 batting average, but his plate discipline remains sound (14.3 BB%), his power has played (.257 ISO), and his defensive issues can be chalked up to lack of experience.

#Cubs Prospect Thread: OF Cole Roederer

Not a big guy, Roederer rose to early round draft consideration this season despite battling injury by reworking his swing to translate his considerable bat speed into in-game power. He now regularly draws comparisons to Andrew Benintendi. Usually when the term five-tool player is attached to a prospect at least one of those tools tend to outshine the others. In the case of Cole Roederer that may not be the case as most who have seen him attach 50-55 grades across the board.

#Cubs Prospect Thread: SS Zack Short

Despite an up-and-down collegiate career the Cubs showed continual interest in Zack Short throughout, eventually making him a 17th Rd Pick in 2016. Short has rewarded their faith by exceeding all expectations.
1/ Originally being groomed as a utility man, Short has positioned himself on the cusp of the 40-man roster as legitimate SS and potentially key role player. Given the uncertainty surrounding a certain SS in Chicago, Short will provide vital insurance at AAA level in 2019.
