Thinking about this week's actions by #HamOnt council, sanctioning the LGBTQ committee chair for purportedly publishing PII against the advice of the Clerk by tweeting his committee's motion.

The Clerk helpfully replaced the document yesterday. Let's see what changed.

/Thread Here's the replacement text. There are clearly three sections of text redacted to protect Personal Information. Implied in the Integrity Commissioner's report and commentary, this text was personally identifying.

.@JasonThorne_RPP A modest proposal, apropos of Main & Queen/Hess in #HamOnt:

Adding some lines may enable better flow of traffic & stop undermining the case for road diets on our main thoroughfares. Image The problem: traffic is regularly backing up as far as (and past) Locke St.

The cause: conflict directly east of Queen St., where lane 2 ends and lane 1 splits. Drivers in lane 1 should enter 'new' lane 1, allowing lane 2 to enter 'new' lane 2.

They aren't.

Men:

You had the balls to make family.
Find them again and speak up for family needs.

theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl… Actions:
- share the trade-offs: create a joint work schedule that allows both of you to do your thing
- ask for (and provide) concentrated work hours
- make subconscious household work conscious and contribute. Make checklists *you* can use at the end of the day if you need them

Now this is properly misleading packaging.

Looks like a good-sized pack of chicken bits - compares well to similar options at the same price point… Image …but what’s that in faint type in the “Plum Sauce packets included” call-out? Might be something important… Image

"nearly everyone coming into law enforcement is bombarded with dash cam footage of police officers being ambushed and killed. Over and over and over…"

An important read. [Training says] "cops are the sheepdogs, bad guys are the wolves, and the citizens are the sheep […] to a stupid sheep, sheepdogs look more like wolves than sheep"

[This is] what abusers do to coerce their victims into isolation, pulling them away from friends and family…

It strikes me that Hamilton Police could easily finance the SoBi system for the next six months from their pool of ‘excess funds’ and think of it as a crime prevention expense (all those stolen bikes, exceeded occupant limits, etc.) Or, you know, council could act intelligently and not let an agency like HPS accumulate ‘excess’ funds in the millions.

Millions that we ‘don’t have’ to leave lying around, as we are repeatedly told.

By some of the same people who sit on the police service board.

@terrywhitehead Hamilton > Social Bicycles > Hamilton Bike Share Inc.

Social Bicycles turned into Jump.

Uber bought Jump and terminated the subcontract to HBSI.

Uber is now pulling out. Hamilton has only had a single contract for the operation of the bike share system.

Now we need a new operator.

This morning I walked through a sea of Ontario teachers preparing for another in a series of demonstrations.

I was struck by two things:

1. Heartache that they are yet again finding themselves in the streets, calling for support in the classroom.

1/5

#onpoli #Teachers 2. The realization that many of them will have themselves experienced the strike, pickets, and demonstrations of the Mike Harris era and Bill 160.

2/5

@AppleMusic your taxonomy needs work. This is not Russian Pop (as much as Putin may wish it were). #Latvian Image @AppleMusic Ditto these. 1991 was a pretty important year, geopolitically - your categories might want to reflect it (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_o…) Image

@cityofhamilton @GOtransit another winter brings another chance to ask: who between you will clear the snow & ice from the south side sidewalk on Hunter between Catharine & John and down to the John St stairway? It's a dangerous, obviously overlooked situation. @cityofhamilton @GOtransit Answer: @cityofhamilton "should".

True story:
1. Customer orders product. It ships.
2. While in transit, price drops. Store will not match, insists customer re-purchase and return first order to get pricing
3. Store ships again. Loses parcel.
4. Store re-ships item so customer can return it to them "Your feedback is helping us build Earth's Most Customer-Centric Company."
"Did I solve your problem?"

Well… I guess, if you call extensive (and expensive) transportation of an unwanted item across the continent in order to process a $30 price difference 'solving'…

For the GDPR geeks out there, Facebook's 'opt-in' for phone record scraping offers a good illustration of conflation of purposes and an example of dark-pattern (invalid?) consent collection.

Big bold purpose #1 (benefit!), small low-contrast purpose #2 (major intrusion!)… Image The line 'lets friends find each other […] and helps us create a better experience…' suggests an awareness that the headline does not adequately convey the purpose for which the consent is sought – or that, at least, two very distinct and unrelated purposes are bundled here.
