I am teaching Grade 12's this semester, and worried about how they would receive/perceive being taught structured literacy. I worried that practicing sounds would feel babyish.
And then I accidentally (it came out of my mouth unplanned) hit on a nerve that created total buy-in.
In introducing the rationale for SL as "improving fluency", and then explaining the word "fluency", it occurred to me to ask:
"How many people in this room fear reading out loud? How many feel embarrassed?"
Nervous side-eyes. And then, all the hands went up.

Hey #onted friends! I've received no fewer than 20 emails and DMs in the past two weeks, from teachers who are feeling very nervous and unsupported re: destreaming starting at their schools.
I've done it for 5 years, and I'm so excited for you. And, you're not alone.
I am not an expert. I have nothing to sell (boooo TPT). But I've got a lot of experience and a lot of resources to share. And I strongly believe that we are better together. So take a deep breath, and dig in below. We got this.

1) What are the most important steps you/your school took in advance to improve/ensure success?
- My school has capped Academic Pathways classes at 24. This is super helpful, as more one-on-one and more descriptive feedback are necessary for success,
