It seems feminists are increasingly adopting talking points from the manosphere and reframing them as 'empowering'.

This idea that 5% of men hoarded all the women (during the neolithic era - a detail often omitted) sounds absurd on its face because it is. Let's see why exactly🧵 The theory underlying this tends to be that as social/wealth inequality rose following the advent of agriculture, so too did reproductive inequality among men, with women opting to share a higher status man than settle for one of low status.

'Chad' has been officially debunked.
Here's why the 'growing Chadopolization' of the sexual marketplace is a myth:
🧵 Image There is a pervasive belief online that a minority of aesthetically gifted men—colloquially referred to as 'Chads'—are hoarding a growing share of the sexual pie, leaving the majority of men out in the cold and fighting over scraps: the so-called '80/20 rule'. Image

Here we go again. This 'app-driven chadopoly' theory is totally evidence-free. It's all based on overly simplistic extrapolations from imbalanced swipe rates and many men having low match rates. This says next to nothing about what actual behaviour these apps are facilitating 🧵
Image Swipe rates in a vacuum provide negligible insight. For one thing--at least partially owing to the skewed gender ratio--many men adopt a spray and pray approach to swiping, filtering out any undesired matches after the fact (which swiping data doesn't capture). Image

In a study by Scott & Ward (2018), observers rated the mental health, attractiveness, physical health, and masculinity of composite faces made from men who scored the highest or lowest in AQ (Autism), IDS (Depression), and SPQ (Schizotypy).
🧵 Image Easy to mistake the 'low' and 'high' as referring to scores on the traits listed on the right, but low 'actual mental health' implies they score higher on the traits and vice versa.

Data from Pew Research's American Trends Panel Wave 103, conducted in Feb 2022.
The article based on the survey done later that year didn't break this down by age.
38% of single men and 31% of single women between the ages of 18-29 reported not seeking relationships. Image So the rates of 50% and 65% of men and women not seeking relationships was being highly skewed by older people, especially for women.
Taking the single rates of this survey into account, 22% of 18-29 men and 10% of 18-29 women were both single and not seeking relationships. Image

Is obsessing over sex a cope?
There are some people who seem to think that men's purpose in life should be to score the highest 'body count' and that this would bring them great fulfillment. What we find however from The National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health.. Image Is that lifetime vaginal sex partners, vaginal sex partners in the past year, and even past year vaginal sex acts (so not necessarily promiscuity related) don't seem to have a positive association with mental health in either women or men.

Everyone assumed that the HCMST 2017 data showing the percentage 'meeting online' shooting up was being driven by dating apps, but it turns out that only 10% of the 39% who 'met online' met through dating apps, which is a lot more in line with data from a variety of other sources Image It's probably understated a bit due to OLD sites that predated smartphones not being included, although they've also developed app versions.
Still, probably not by much, as the 2022 Pew OLD survey showed 9% of straight respondents meeting through OLD in general. Image

I've been wading through the NSFG survey data the past few days to see how much it agrees or disagrees with manosphere memes.
Especially this semi-viral meme that went around of a screenshot from a small 'paper' on 'sexual loneliness' citing some outdated NSFG & GSS data... The NSFG data supposedly showed that while the top 5/20% of men in lifetime sex partner counts reported higher counts in 2011-13 than 2002, women didn't. There were issues with this, as if you look closely at the source study it shows women did actually rise at least as much... Image

#Autism and the #Incel community 🧵

A large incel forum survey found that 71.5% of the respondents reported being on the autism spectrum:
nationalpost.com/news/inside-th… Another survey found that 18% had an official diagnosis, while a whopping 74% were self-diagnosed. Regardless of the level of accuracy to these self-diagnoses, it shows at the least that autism-like social difficulties are unsurprisingly highly prevalent in this community.

One of the central themes encountered in the manosphere is the idea that online dating and particularly the dating app Tinder is facilitating women's 'hypergamous nature' and their riding of the 'chad cock carousel'... ...wherein large numbers of women are having sex with a small number of highly attractive men through the convenience of their phones.
While they're right that it's a lot harder for men to compete on dating apps, the narrative fails to acknowledge important context.

New Pew Research Survey on OLD dropped recently.
3/10 Americans say they've used OLD, same amount as in 2019, but only 9% in the past year.
Those under 30 were more likely to have ever used it at 53%.
Men were also more likely to have used it at 34% vs. 27% for women... ..I'll add that the gender imbalance is even wider when it comes to current users.
It also found that 10% had met their partners/spouses through OLD, down from 12% in 2019, though the share of 18-29s who had was slightly higher at 20% compared to 17% in 2019.

A cope incels and co. will commonly put forth is that historically only 1 in 17 men have reproduced, and this is the natural hypergamy-driven sexual dynamic that results from a society without enforced monogamy. Generally a screencap of this article will be provided as a source. Image The problem is that this headline is overzealous as the original study didn't prove that the bottleneck was due to polygamy (let alone hypergamy), only that from about 7-5k years ago there was a marked reduction in male genetic diversity, which could be for any number of reasons. @datepsych Not sure if you've dived into humour's effect on attractiveness yet, but this may be of interest to you.
It's been famously stated by Hitchens that "women aren't funny".
While many would dismiss this as a sexist myth, there is some solid empirical backing for it. This meta-analysis of 36 studies which involved over 5,000 collective subjects (67% female) seems to agree, with an effect size of 0.321 and 63% of men scoring above the mean humour production ability of women.

Alright so I'm going to try my hand at @datepsych's thing as I'd like to share some findings.
For the past 5 or so years, it has been echoed in the manosphere and beyond that the virginity rate among young men has soared up to where a third of young men now are virgins. This is as far as I can tell based entirely on this graph posted by the washington post journalist behind the article on rising sexlessness, which emphasized the male role in the trend. As you can see the rate of 'virginity' apparently rose from 8% in 2008 to 27% in 2018. Image
