On Monday, at the Federal Executive Council, our administration approved the most consequential reforms of the National Youth Service Corps Scheme since its establishment in 1973.

On the day I was sworn in as your President, I promised to create meaningful opportunities for our young people. I said women and youth would feature prominently in our administration, and this reform is partly the actualisation of that promise. 2/

For 53 years, the NYSC has served the cause of national unity. That mission remains important and must be preserved.

But the Nigeria of today demands more.

Our young people are nearly 70 per cent of our population. They are not a burden to be managed… They are the engine of the one-trillion-dollar economy we are building and the hope of this nation.

We are repositioning the NYSC from a mobilisation scheme into a national development platform for skills, employability, productivity and enterprise.

I have today signed the NIMC Act 2026 into law.

For nearly twenty years, Nigeria’s identity system operated under a law written for a different era. That era is over.

This new Act gives our nation a modern, secure and digital identity framework fit for the Nigeria we are building, a Nigeria on the path to becoming a one-trillion-dollar economy. 2/
This law makes NIMC the Root Certification Authority for Nigeria’s National Public Key Infrastructure and Digital Public Infrastructure. With this, NIMC now holds the keys to trust in our digital economy: every digital signature, every secure transaction, and every verified identity.

This is how serious nations build digital economies, and we are building one for Nigeria.

When we came into office, we made a promise to Nigerians that food security would be a major pillar of our Renewed Hope agenda.

We promised to support our farmers, strengthen local production, reduce dependence on imports, and build an agricultural system strong enough to withstand shocks from beyond our borders.

That promise is being kept.

Over the past year, disruptions in global supply chains and rising costs of key fertiliser inputs, exacerbated by conflict in the Middle East, created serious pressure for many countries. For Nigeria, the risks were glaring if we failed to move fast. This includes potential input shortages, higher fertiliser prices, pressure on local blending plants, reduced farm productivity, and higher food prices.

I am pleased to inform you that we moved early.

Through the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative (PFI), now restructured under MOFI, we strengthened procurement, secured critical raw materials, signed forward agreements, improved coordination across the value chain, and protected Nigeria’s local fertiliser blending industry from the worst effects of global market disruption.

Fellow Nigerians

Today, we celebrate democracy and the enduring Nigerian spirit. For 27 unbroken years, since May 29, 1999, Nigerians have chosen their leaders through the ballot, witnessed peaceful transitions of power, and resolved disagreements in courtrooms and legislative chambers—not through violence. We have experienced the longest stretch of civilian rule in our history. Our democracy is not perfect, but it is ours, and we must continue to defend and strengthen it. In the coming days, Ekiti and Osun States will hold elections. I urge INEC, security agencies, and all parties to ensure these polls are peaceful and credible. Democracy fails when citizens doubt the process. To our National Assembly, Judiciary, the Press, and Civil Society: you are the guardrails of our republic. Criticise me, disagree with me, but never stop believing in Nigeria.

When I placed the Renewed Hope Agenda before Nigerians, I did not speak of housing in vague terms. I gave my word that this administration would work to make decent homes affordable again, and that a hardworking family, after years of paying rent, would finally have a path to a house of its own.

Let me account for that promise plainly, by juxtaposing what we pledged beside what we have actually achieved.

1/ We promised a programme built on a national scale, 100,000 homes in all, with 50,000 in the first phase through cities of 1,000 units in every geopolitical zone and the Federal Capital Territory, and estates of up to 500 units in the remaining 30 states.

What stands today is no longer a drawing. We broke ground on more than 3,000 homes at Karsana in Abuja, the 2,000-unit city at Ibeju-Lekki in Lagos has reached advanced completion with sales already underway, and across the country, more than 15,000 units are rising as I write this.

To those who ring the alarm that the APC is intent on a one-party state, I offer you a most personal promise. While your alarm may be as a result of your panic, it rings in error.

At no time in the past, nor any instance in the present, and at no future juncture shall I view the notion of a one-party state as good for Nigeria. I have never attempted to alter any political party registration with INEC.

Equally, my friends, we cannot blame anybody seeking to bail out of a sinking ship even without a life jacket.

In 2003, when the then-governing party tried to sweep the nation clean of political opposition through plot and manipulation, I was the last of
the progressive governors standing in my region. In all their numbers and false grandeur, they boasted of ruling, not governing, Nigeria for the next half century or more. Where are they now?

Today, we declared a state of emergency and unveiled a comprehensive intervention plan on food security, affordability, and sustainability, taking decisive action to tackle food inflation. These are steps towards a more food secure Nigeria for all.

Today, I joined the ongoing 3rd Ministerial Performance Review of the President Muhammadu Buhari led government being held in Abuja. I listened intently to the various submissions, success stories and highlights, including the most challenging areas in which more must be done to improve the lot of the Nigerian people.

I felicitate with the good people of Ekiti on the occassion of the swearing in today, of Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the new Governor of Ekiti State who takes over from Governor Kayode Fayemi. I must also commend the seamless transition - the first of its kind in Ekiti. It is my sincere hope that this new beginning will usher in even greater progress for the people of the state.

Sustainable governance and good government are the bedrock upon which resilient economies are built. This was the underlying theme at KADINVEST 7.0, the investment summit of Kaduna State led by it’s performing Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. I reiterated that as leaders, we must not only build infrastructure and develop our economy but we must also invest in people, capacity development, frameworks for sustainability in leadership and reforms.

Today, I congratulate elder statesman and eminent leader in Lagos State and Nigeria, Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, on his 86th birthday. A mentor and partner on the progressive front over the years, Prince Olusi has provided rare leadership and guidance for many of us in Lagos State and beyond.
