I just published my book: Learn to Code & Get a Developer Job in 2023.🏕️
And I made the entire book freely available on freeCodeCamp.📖
When you read it, you'll learn how to:
🛠️Build your coding skills,
🕸️Personal network,
🏛️Reputation as a developer,
👷And get a developer job
Back in 2017, one of the Big 5 book publishers from New York City reached out to me about a book deal.
I met with them, but didn't have time to write a book. I was too busy running freeCodeCamp.
Well, last year I finally had time to sit down and write it.

I'm proud to share freeCodeCamp learner Noëlle's inspiring story with you.
"When I was 19, I dropped out of college because I was $20,000 in student loan debt and could no longer afford the price of classes."
"That same year, I discovered I was pregnant with twin girls. I had to move back in to my parents’ house and work full time hours at minimum wage (then about $8/hour) to make ends meet."

Happy 8th birthday to the global freeCodeCamp community. 🎂🎇
I some big announcements for you all about our progress on:
📊 Python Data Science courses
🧮 Free Associate of Mathematics university degree
💾 Free Bachelor of Computer Science degree
To summarize in 1 picture:
We are working to make it possible for anyone – anywhere in the world – to work toward earning free, accredited university degrees.
This vision may take a decade or longer to accomplish. But we have already made substantial progress toward realizing it.

People often ask me: "How can I build a community?"
Over the past 8 years building @freeCodeCamp, I've observed several approaches that seem to work. And I've seen other community builders use them, too.
I hope these community building tips will help you in your journey. 🌄
Note that I am lucky enough to have US citizenship, and to be physically + mentally well. And I'm a white guy in a world largely controlled by white men.
Your mileage may vary.
None of these tips are rocket science. They just require patience, mindfulness, and curiosity.

If it weren't for the USPS, @freeCodeCamp would never have existed.
It costs a lot of money to run a nonprofit. Servers. Legal. Payroll.
How did a teacher living in a one-bedroom apartment pull together $150,000 to fund a nonprofit?
In short: by using USPS. [Thread]
For years I had a side hustle:
1. Find large lots of old video games on Craigslist.
2. Drive around the state buying them up.
3. Sell the games individually on eBay to a world-wide market.
Without USPS, I couldn't have done any of this.

Hi friends, in solidarity with those demanding justice and equality, I am going to stop tweeting about programming for the next few days.
Instead, I'm going to leave you with this thread. I hope it will give you some context into what is happening here in the US.
The US has a messy history. Our economic success as a British colony was largely due to slavery. Hundreds of years later, these wounds have still not healed. We pretended they don't exist. But they do.
