I’ve seen this movie before, and spoiler alert: it doesn’t have a happy ending. What surprises me is how normal it feels for folks to ignore the obvious red flags—and, in cases like this gentleman’s, even throw a party for them. Let’s be honest: it’s nothing but glorified pickpocketing, just with better Wi-Fi.Image I don’t know if Zepto is guilty of this; I really hope not. They don’t need these shenanigans. The market’s juicy enough to grow without playing dirty, and their founders are way too smart to wreck a good thing.

In the Telecom VAS circle, there's a story about @One97 and @vijayshekhar . How they survived a near death experience . They had product that could have disrupted the industry by moving VAS to a Revenue Share model from the Fixed Cost model championed by an incumbent. AFAIK evidence against Nieman is at best circumstantial ergo non-conclusive. In all likelihood, he will get away with a slap on the wrist.IMHO It's a courageous but immature move on part of Carlsen to walk away from competition because of that. First Naomi Osaka and now Carlsen. It is surprising how young upstarts and [potential] future doyens of sports are choosing to opt-out of competitions (and contractual obligations) because of personal [subjective ] assessment.

A thread on hiring conundrum in startups . 🧵 Of late there has been lot of talk on twitter around cost of hiring in startups. Consensus seems to be that : Salaries for top talent are through the roof → You need top talent to succeed → You need a war chest of a funding to hire .

This Ongoing conversation on Flow Vs BaseCamp Vs Asana is a perfect case study on the complexity of how things happen in the real-world and how single-factor explanations are almost always too simplistic. This offers a chance to talk about how to assimilate content you consume on internet , process it, and extract gasoline of knowledge from the crude oil Narrative. #badanalogy

Many of you DMed me asking to share the Indian equivalent of this phenomenon. So here is a 🧵 on the same. Disclaimer: I am no expert in this. This theory is not subjected to statistical rigor and probably I am confusing correlation with causation.

This thread bought back a lot of memories for me. Virtual Gifting is one of the untapped opportunities in the Indian Ecosystem. It's a case study on How we ignore the leading indicator of TAM. Storytime 🧵 In 2011-12 I was working with Spice. We had 20 App portfolio with 50M+ download, 0.5M Unique generating 1.5-2.0M PV in aggregate, 2k-4k $ daily revenue approx . This god damn Two Pizza rule. Let me tell you a story about it. In 2013 I was raising funds for my startup . I meet an associate at top VC firm. A freshly minted MBA + consulting guy.who was armed to teeth with every startup clichés. Nice person otherwise. Contd. I gave very conservative hiring plan of 7 people in a year . 2 backend , 2 front-end , 1 data, 1 QA ,1 Content and CS. He said that's too much ! Why not two pizza team. I liked the guy so I said " that rule is for team not company". Contd.

A thread on observations about the behavior of Next Billion Users (NBU) and how they use products and services we build: 1/n I have spent the last few months in Bikaner, A tier 2 city in Rajasthan. Here I got to observe our users from a distance while still being part of context. Some of what I noticed was contrary to the ideas we have in the industry about our users.2/n

Just Finished reading "Debt: The First 5000 Year " by David Graeber. It's a fascinating book that deconstructs the concept of Debt and shows how it permeates everything from geopolitics to economics to religion to everyday morality. amazon.in/Debt-Updated-E… if there is one thing which more shocking than the omnipresence of the idea of debt it is our ignorance (and denial) of it. This book does a good job of getting rid of the ignorance part. we can still choose to live in denial and do nothing.

Happy Mother's Day. Today I want to share a little personal anecdote. I wanted to do it for long, but I stopped myself because I was lazy, it was weird, and the conclusion I wanted to present was not statistically verified. A few years back, I was at my college reunion. It was a decade and a half for me since I left college, and some of the attendees were out of college for a little more than two decades. Some had kids going to college already.

Checked out of school @WhatsApp group due to excessive hate and communal message by Right Wing nutjobs. We studiend together but I don't recognize those folks anymore . @WhatsApp It was time to move on. Long overdue . I guess at one point or the another everyone outgrows his or her environment. Growth require cutting ties with past. Probably that’s why a lot of artist are also avid travellers.

This reminds me of one Mr.Kureshi. He was my uber driver on the day when akhlak was killed in dadri village by cow vigilantes. Mr. Kureshi picked me from my office. He was visibly worried and was constantly on phone 1/n I asked him to not talk while driving and suggested that he park the car on side and finish his call. I'm fine with delay. He did the same and came back in 10 min. Thanked me for my patience and resumed driving. 2/n

Got this interesting info on a @WhatsApp group I am part of. Caveat: I am not sure of its authenticity but If this is the case then it means @netflix is trying to Pre-emptively solve the "Facebook" problem. Image "Facebook Problem": An unintended side effect of your product related choices because of which a platform /aggregator is held responsible for the action of the user . And where platform /aggregator insist that user had option and agency to act otherwise.
