I was going to write about #AbolishLIM today. I’m going to write about something so much more important. #DERB - #DERBNOW #DerbIsTheWord I will NEVER forget when that hashtag was created. Mostly bc I thought: “omg, no. That’s a terrible sounding word.” I’m VERY glad it stuck. A🧵 I like being wrong. It’s an opportunity to grow. When I’m wrong, I like knowing WHY. Some people can’t handle it. Maybe they feel like they’ve learned everything they need to know. I have a pint of honesty for you: there are somethings you need to UNKNOW. It’s called “unlearning”

We’re living through critical times. I fight for BI for a list of reasons so long that it could wrap around a castle, twice. I also know that there’s A LOT of push back to my methods. Can anyone guess how many times I’ve heard “yeah, but there are hundreds of methods out there”🧵 When I talk about my methods, I’m not talking about my ego or my vanity. Im talking about my caregiver. Im talking about a woman who took care of a man who suffered with cancer for roughly a decade only to die painfully & now she’s having to watch her only daughter fight 4

To be a #PWD in this time of turmoil during the creation of #C22 is a complex and emotional rollercoaster of events. A nation of ppl truly affected by the outcome are watching every single moment, working to be apart of the process, hoping to have their input. A🧵 There is nothing in the Bill which brings real comfort and trust in the system. That ultimately is the truth, as I see it. Call me a pessimist if you want to, but the truth is, as I see it- this needs to be wholly rewritten and expedited. It needs to call for accountability.

Tuesday is coming. It’s going to be a big day in the #HoC for #PWD and for the right reasons. Big reasons. @BonitaZarrillo has been a big supporter of Bill C-22 which will help the lives of Canadians with Disabilities all over the country. There are many unanswered questions. A🧵 To say that @CQualtro has her hands full with this is the understatement of the year. She’s endured big time scrutiny and for all the right reasons. #PWD are legitimately going to #MAiD bc of poverty situations. So why hasn’t this been a bigger deal? We can say whatever we want.
