#DougFord reminds me of another #authoritarian whose supporters and admin blamed everyone and everything while exclaiming his BIGLY greatness. He went to extraordinary lengths to avoid accountability. Result? Left nearly a million COVID deaths & irreparable damage in his wake. 🧵
PAY ATTN: #DougFord isn’t just an incompetent dope—he’s dangerous. #Narcissism makes him highly manipulable by ppl w agendas. Incapable of criticism, learning fr mistakes, or course correction. BUT #FordNation is simultaneously, actively dismantling ON in a flurry of incompetence
As a fmr social worker &poor #PwD I’ve watched in horror as this clownish populist has torn asunder the “administrative state” that doesNot just sustain the vulnerable. It enables our govt capable to protect the haves & have-nots in a pandemic. I’m genuinely afraid for all of us.

We have seen mass outrage over seniors in #LTC and children who are going to schools that are unsafe. We hear about #FreeTheRATs and about bringing back #CERB but as usual there is little to be said about #ODSPoverty and other social assistance in Canada.
#PWD have been left out. Some of us were lucky to get a few crumbs... $400 from Ontario and $600 from the Feds but LAST year. And we all live about 45% below the poverty line. There are regular stories of people getting old/bad food from food banks. /2
Almost none of us can afford N95 masks or rapid antigen tests. We can't physically get to these Hunger Games locations without being exposed or without great difficulty. I can't take the bus from Hintonburg to Barrhaven. Then stand in a line to maybe get a test? /3

1. Children, especially unvaccinated ones, are driving the 5th wave: It's obvious from case numbers/age and school outbreaks.
2. The @fordation government will not have lived up to its promises to provide N95 masks to teachers and HEPA filtration in every classroom upon return.
3. School cases & outbreaks will no longer be recorded. Dr. Moore said 10 children could be off sick in a single classroom, while classmates, who are asymptomatic, can continue to attend without symptoms.
The R value >4 means every elementary classmate would likely be infected.
4. Presymptomatic and asymptomatic spread remain important modes of transmission. Somehow, @fordnation & Dr. Moore abandoned this knowledge bec. it's convenient.
5. Children may handle COVID19 much better. However, they spread it at home.
6. To the elderly and immunocompromised.

@ArleneDickinson A real tragedy in the pandemic is how Canada fails to treat disabled people #PWD as human.
@JustinTrudeau recognized a significant number of severely disabled Canadians live in abject poverty, receiving monthly benefits, 30% below the lowest income seniors, but has not acted.
@ArleneDickinson @JustinTrudeau Those dependent on provincial disability support programs are paid less than $1170/month in Ontario.
@fordnation has not provided inflation adjustments since he was elected. Hardly any money left to buy food each month, most rely on food banks. No CERB to buy masks or tests.
@ArleneDickinson @JustinTrudeau @fordnation These are the people at highest risk of #COVID19 due to underlying health problems and living in high density settings with poor ventilation often.
#TheCanadianDisabilityBenefit Act should have been passed. Please advocate for better income among Canada's disabled. #onpoli

Sounds like Dr. Moore will uphold the status quo as cases explode and hospitalizations increase by 9%. After Christmas Doug Ford will respond to a crisis THEY created by refusing to be proactive NOW. #Omicron may not take a holiday but Ontario govt is as Moore make suggestions.🧵
Fuck You! Dr. Moore suggests seniors & immunocompromised get #vaccinated immediately. He says they are his priority & he’s “concerned” but they’ve done fuck all to roll out a best practices #BoostersForOntario policy that prioritizes #LTC, seniors & #PWD, congregant workplaces.
Dr. Moore makes an announcement abt an announcement. Sometime in the future Doug Ford’s govt will announce fixes to Ontario’s shitshow he created.

Will he even tell people that if they haven’t been boosted that they are NOT fully #vaccinated? That #COVIDisAirborne or abt #N95?

The cost of living is skyrocketing, inflation rates are going up. So why aren’t social-assistance rates too?

@OntarioGreens continue to call on the Premier to double the rates for #ODSP 1/4
#PWD have been asking for help during COVID, struggling to survive on a maximum of $1,169 a month — all while the price of food and housing is going through the roof.

Over the past year, the cost of shelter has gone up 4.8%, and food is up 3.9%. #onpoli 2/4
We know persons #PWD have borne a disproportionate burden of the pandemic.

Ontarians shouldn’t have to choose between paying their rent or putting food on the table. The situation is dire. #ODSPoverty 3/4

The Dishonourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Disability Exclusion, said during her side event at the United Nations that her government took longer than it should have to provide one-time $600 to approx. ⅓ of Canada’s disabled (DTC):…
Minister Qualtrough continued, saying that her government is thus “determined to not let history repeat itself,” and that part of their so doing: implement a Disability Inclusion Action Plan with new Canadian Disability Benefit.

But their Budget 2021 proves that that was a lie. ImageImage
In the Budget 2021, Carla Qualtrough’s government commits $12-million over the next *three years* on consultations for reforming their benefits’ eligibility processes.

It took more than half a year to provide the aforementioned $600; the Minister then said, they wouldn’t repeat.

Dear @cafreeland, let me save you four years, at least a thousand lives and $12,000,000 in 6 tweets or less.

Your going to commit $12,000,000 for discussions on how to include the most people possible and what to provide in a #Canada #disability benefit. It REALLY is #simple 1/6
In fact, it's SO simple that I'm using up extra words in my promised six tweets or less to highlight JUST how easy it is.

YOU'RE going to ask around, maybe get.. 200 or 300 opinions.. 80% will be from organizations. 70% of those will kiss your ass. half of the individuals 2/6
you ask will ask an opinion from, will ask for so much because they've had so little (for SO LONG) you'll discount them anyways. Here is what you need to do and how to do it. The next three tweets are simple. it's "How to do it" and "What to give" 3/6 #PWD #ODSP #SAID #AISH #CPPD

If I read #federalbudget of #Canada Correctly
@cafreeland committed $12M over THREE YEARS to TALKING about how to implement a disability benefit some point in the future (maybe)
(But $13M to ensure MAID happens)

So no #inclusion & #inclusive recovery for #ODSP #CPPD #SAID #AISH
At this rate, with what the provinces are doing to #PWD @JustinTrudeau @cafreeland You won't have to worry about #MAID or a #Disabilities Benefit cause the problem is going to "Solve itself"
They Can't Afford to live NOW Damn it !
3 weeks to invent #CERB
4 YEARS to maybe help PWD
How many more times are they supposed to say
"Maybe next year, people will care"
How many more decades ?
How many more wasted PWD lives because
Canada won't put the well being disabled people equal to those who are "Able" ?

How many more GENERATIONS @JustinTrudeau ?

I’m so fucking sick of this shit, we’re now in the middle of a third wave, with a province wide shutdown, and we’re getting no help from the government despite Covid cases rising here in Ontario, and with everything from increased costs of using grocery delivery services ... 1/9
the rising cost of groceries, plus having to buy PPE, this is, well, let’s just call it what it is, the genocide and culling of disabled people by the government (both provincially and federally), especially when the only option in front of us is MAID ... 2/9
which the government has made clear by passing Bill C7, honestly how the fuck am I and others relying on social assistance expected to survive this pandemic, hell we’re not even prioritized early on the vaccine list despite many who are immunocompromised ... 3/9

To everybody thinking they have the right to correct #DisabledPeople when they use that term, telling us it should be #PWD STOP. #PeopleFirst is not correct, it's outdated. Maybe listen to us, explore the #SocialModel & be a bit more humble.
To all the people who didn't get what I meant in this tweet, here's my beginner's guide to disability explanation of language like disabled people.
If you are really tied to putting "people" first when describing disabled people, to stick to the social model & be grammatically correct why not use "people who are disabled" or "a person who is disabled"?
Then we all win.

1/ Offended by the language used by @NDIS Minister on radio today, when confirming his plan to change #NDIS Act to prevent #PWD using funds to access sex therapists. “If states & territories wish to fund prostitutes, they can pay for it themselves”, he said. @Asher_Wolf @CIDvoice
2/ Throughout the “interview” with Ray Hadley, the @NDIS Minister kept referring to “prostitutes”. “Prostitutes will not be paid for using taxpayers money” he said. This is a disgraceful abuse by the Minister of his position, and demonstrates an acute lack of understanding. #CRPD
3/ #Sexual rights are #HumanRights. #PWD have the same rights to sexual expression as non-disabled people. A Ministers personal religious views should never determine what is “reasonable & necessary” for #NDIS participants. @Jordonsteele @drgeorgethecrip

For each #Province and #Territory in #Canada, here is the help that was offered to those living with #disabilities. This will include the #Federal help offered as well as any hoops #PWDs may have needed to jump through to get it and whether CERB was clawed back or not.
This is based on my own research, and if anyone sees anything I missed or may have gotten wrong please let me know.
Let's start with #Yukon
According to several articles, eligible families on #disability supports we're to get up to $400 to help with costs until August. Unknown what eligibility was.
#CERB was exempt from clawbacks.
