I'm seeing some claims floating about here that the Scottish Government has "banned" woodburning / biomass heating. This isn't true.

I've seen people worried by these claims, thinking they'll be forced to rip out their woodburner! No, you won't. What's changing is rules for new buildings & major conversions applying for a building warrant from this month.

It has nothing to do with existing heating systems, or replacements that aren't part of a building conversion. There are exemptions for emergency heating systems too.

A thread on why I have resigned as an Honorary Associate of @NatSecSoc. I'm a strong believer in a secular society, where religion isn't given advantages by the state, where people are equal regardless of religion, and where religious freedom can include freedom *from* religion. The NSS's Honorary Associates aren't involved in the leadership or management of the society. It's just a way of demonstrating support from across the political spectrum, and from high profile public & academic figures. I was asked to become one shortly after being elected.

I've been pretty impressed with @BBCScotNine since its launch, but their insistence today on wanting to put a hard right climate denial lobby group on air to discuss the #ClimateStrike was a serious mis-step.
