Why people don't trust the media, Exhibit A:

[Going to make this a running thread] Why people don't trust the media, Exhibit B:

Right there in the clip itself, Trump acknowledges and discusses vulnerable populations, while also making the *accurate* point that some states have seen 0 coronavirus deaths under the age of 18.

Not to make light of the situation, but the only evidence we have that he was a white supremacist is that at a BLM protest, surrounded by black people, he managed to shoot 3 other white people. You will never convince me that these people aren't actively & intentionally seeking to worsen racial tensions. They lie and distort every story for maximum damage at every opportunity. The 3 WHITE people who were shot weren't doing anything "while black".

Some quick thoughts on @justinamash's impeachment comments:

1. I think he's sincere, and, as many have already said, shows a real courage of conviction.

2. I also think he's largely right that both Dems and Repubs would be singing different tunes if POTUS' party were reversed. 3. I think where Amash probably goes wrong is the framing around Barr. If Mueller left bread crumbs pointing towards an impeachment, it is NOT Barr's job to endorse/amplify them.

Impeachment is an inherently political process, and one that the AG shouldn't touch with a 10' pole.

Since we're explore "what if" scenarios, let's try this one:

Imagine if a white man had approached a black kid and started hammering a drum, merely inches from his face, while the black kid stood there, calmly, doing nothing beyond letting out a smile before walking away. Then imagine this white man went to the press and told them that this group of black kids had surrounded him, chanting "you're not welcome here", and that one black kid in particular had actually blocked him from retreating out of this "ugly situation".

While we don't yet know if the boys' version of this encounter is 100% true, we do know that Phillips' version is a flat out lie.

The NYT, without a shred of due diligence, has unleashed the wrath of tens of thousands on these kids, but can't be bothered to issue a correction. This is what motivated journalism looks like: they saw a white kid in a red hat and a Native American in the same frame, and applied it to a template.

This isn't journalism; it's a race baiting diatribe on Trump and his supporters superimposed on a compelling freeze frame.

This tweet by @CNN commentator @keithboykin paints the picture of a Mississippi under long-term Republican control, and highlights the state's notable underperformance in several important socio-economic categories.

Let's briefly look at how staggeringly dishonest this is. 1/ First, let's challenge the idea that Mississippi has been under long-term GOP control in any meaningful way.

This is pretty easily dispelled by viewing a history of the partisan control of MS' governorship and Congress. Note that the GOP has only held power since 2011:

Thread: the canary is dead.

The European Court of Human Rights has issued a judgement in the case of E.S. v. Austria, and it's a ruling that should outrage our friends in Europe, and, as a potential harbinger of things to come here in the states, should concern us as well. 1/ The contentious nature of the case, and that of the ruling itself, sparked a flurry of summary coverage, but it wasn't until I read through the official judgement itself that I realized the extent to which freedom of expression is under attack in Europe. 2/

@Racismdogowners Alright, I read through your thread last night. In replying, I'd like to preface this by saying that yes, you raise some good points, and no, I don't think you're a frothing-at-the-mouth racist.

But if I'm being honest, I struggled with more than a few aspects of this response. @Racismdogowners I struggled with your dismissal of the concerns of POC () in the same thread that you accuse the GOP of doing the same. While you brush your objectors off as "white conservative Twitter", a quick search suggests that that's not an entirely fair assessment.

Thread:

I made mention awhile back that I held constitutional objections to the Medicare For All proposals that periodically come up. It's a complex topic, so it took me a couple weeks to put this together into a (hopefully) coherent argument, but at last, here it is. #m4a The wide range of concerns around Medicare For All has resulted in these being pretty muddy waters, so for the sake of holding a focused discussion, let's just assume that, with the exception of constitutionality, all other concerns have been satisfactorily assuaged.

This tweet came across my feed this morning, and after pondering how generous of a word “confused” was, I felt inspired to take some time to address some of the misinformation in detail. The article in question, authored by Jessica Valenti, is entitled “What Feminists Can Do for Boys”, and can be found here (send clicks at your own discretion): nytimes.com/2018/07/25/opi….

This thread focuses on 4 claims that caught my attention in @RubinReport's initial screenshot:
