Prof Abdool Karim:
•Clade 1b outbreak is bigger than the Clade 2b outbreak was when the PHEIC was declared in 2022.
•two key changes in Clade 1 outbreak:
- it is now spreading readily in adults as well as children
•evidence of heterosexual transmission sexual networks

What does mpox look like:

Painful sores and ulcers on the body especially around the anus and genitals, as well as ulcers in the mouth and genitals.

📣 📣 Our global case series on MPOX in people with advanced HIV infection is at #CROI2023 and in @TheLancet today: 382 cases of human MPOX infection in PLWH with CD4 counts <350 cells/mm3 in 19 countries
**We found MPOX is an opportunistic pathogen** /1

The proportion of women has been very low - 0% to 3·8%. Few have distinguished between cis and trans women
