Assess the sternum looking for a fracture or bone lesion then look at the area of lung behind it - you should see a clear area of lucent lung. If not there could be an anterior mediastinal mass which you may not necessarily appreciate on the frontal view

Some thoughts on Chest X-Ray interpretation in the COVID era (thread)... 1. Peripheral consolidation is now the first thing to look for. Can be really tricky with overweight patients and AP films. Comparing to prior, looking for asymmetry and inverting the film can help avoid overcalling

Just finished an on call. Very different to the last on call I did with a clear change in the landscape and a sharp rise in number of COVID-19 cases. A few observations from the last two weeks:
1. The vast majority of proven PCR positive patients that required hospitalisation have shown bilateral consolidation on admitting CXR. Smaller number started as unilateral consolidation and progressed to bilateral. One started as normal CXR.
