1-Stop the, 'Over prescribing caused the opioid crisis.' narrative. I read article after article where 'liberal prescribing' is ascribed as the cause of the so called #opioidcrisis.
Many articles are written by people in our own community, self proclaimed pain pt ‘advocates’. 2-To this, I’d like to point out that in OC even a judge recently ruled:
"There is simply no evidence to show that the rise in prescriptions was not the result of the medically appropriate provision of pain medications to patients in need,"

Thread...How people in pain are being abused.
Let us count the ways.
1-Emotional Abuse:
Invalidation of person's lived experience
Constant monitoring of activities
#ChronicPain #WeWillNotStaySilent 2-Intellectual Abuse
Being forced to prove your abuser wrong
Mind games
Making the person in pain feel stupid
Attacking the person in pain's ideas or wishes
Manipulation of information, even in medical records
Power Imbalance

Victims of #IllicitFentanylPoisonings.
Deaths happening due to a deadly drug supply, deaths that could have largely been prevented.
These are people, people who were loved, not statistics.

1- I remember way back when advocacy for pain pts started merging with the addiction community's advocacy.
Pushed back on ADX community's mantra of opioid 'over prescribing' & stated that drugs don't cause ADX.
Maia Szalavitz chastised me, told me to basically stay in my lane. 2- In fact, many in the 'upper echelon' of advocacy still embrace the #PainParole status quo & the 'over prescribing' narrative.
Usually if one pushes back, we're blocked or put on the blacklist of CPPs, and now there's even a blacklist for 'rogue' addiction advocates. 🤔🤫

I commented on the CDC's rewrite.
For whatever that's worth.
I'm exhausted, angry, & now grieving a loss that no parent should ever have to face.
I've had my health & ability to live stolen and lost far too many people I love and care about to this #OpioidInsanity.
Thread...👇🏼 2- My comment?
You have no intention of ending this atrocity. You have had people in the pain community chasing their tails for years while asking for our input and 'comments'.

1-Tx of pain & the role of opiate class medicines has gone from pain being inadequately treated across the board to abject insanity.
This was done in an orchestrated but convoluted way, taking pain and making it a 'bio-psycho-social' issue tied inexorably with addiction. 2-For those unfamiliar with CHOIR, it's one of Stanford's projects. It was promoted with the National Pain Strategy (when it was a thing) alongside PROPs opioid 'guideline' as a model for technology driven optimization of pain care through research and data mining.

I hear a public comment period is coming next week on CDC opioid 'guideline' revisions. This link shows who was involved in the 'opioid' revision workgroup, and what topics of concern were discussed. 😔
#ChronicPain… 2-Listed in this thread the people who are influencing 'guidelines' for chronic pain treatment and pain treatment in general.
Dr. Wilson M. Compton serves as the Deputy Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse.…

And I want to RT this to stand on it's own merit.
Just in case it gets buried in the thread.
#ChronicPain #Addiction #DrugUseForGrownUps
#Overdose #Opioids 2-A patients need for opiate pain meds should not be determined on addiction treatment issues. Nor should it necessitate recreational drug advocacy. Those are NOT our fights.
People in pain have been deemed acceptable collateral damage in an ongoing, doomed to fail drug war.

This was the "Pain Patients Bill of Rights" in 1997.
Let me repeat that date.
MDs already had the right to REFUSE pain meds-
LE to go after illegal use.
The whole 'everyone getting opioids like candy' is & was BS.
#GetLawEnforcementOutofHealthcare… 2-This is the business code info referenced in the above linked 'Patients Bill of Rights'-Cal. Health & Safety Code §124960.
Yet today, few can get proper pain care in CA to literally save their lives.

Covid #LongHaulers please take note.
Those in the #MEcfs community has been down the Post Viral Sydrome road for decades now.
The CDC is fully aware of our plight, but has done little in the way of research or help.
Thread... 2-It begins, usually, with an infection.
For the majority of #MyalgicEncephalomyelitis pts it was the Epstein Barr Virus. But there are other infections that lead to #MEcfs as well. In almost every case the person knows that from that point, they were never the same again.

We've lost too many in this insane '#opioid' war.
The sick & injured are spending the last years of their lives fighting, suffering, begging MDs & GOV for the medicines they need to mediate their pain.
They say taking our medicines away is to 'save' people.
No one is being saved. Where is our #HarmReduction? 🧐

How many ways can a pain patient be screwed out of getting needed medicine?
1st-By MDs.
2nd-By pharmacies.
3rd-By insurance companies.
4th-By DEA/GOV corruption/lies.

It took 8 yrs of showing up & advocating for pain pts in a myriad of ways. Of giving a megaphone to many of the 'important' ppl. It took a while, but I learned from some of the best.
@StefanKertesz @maiasz @OldHeadFighta @speakingabtpain @funchefchick @headdock @BethDarnall Maybe these people's stories will matter somehow down the line.
Thank you @GeneW22614687 for highlighting the heinous results of the 'opioid crisis' response. Thanks to Dr. Kline for his sacrifices for the pain community. 💔

It's not by 'accident' that some of us are left out of the conversation, left off the 'lists' of the elite. Our voices relgated to the echo chamber; hundreds who have been fighting for JUSTICE for pain pts since the beginning, while fighting for our very lives. 😔 Image 2-I see based on most of the names that either you're all about addiction with a nod to CPPs, or a CPP who toes the 'moderate' opioid line...😔

Thread-1- Our President, today in his speech, cited specifically upholding Article 5.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
How many of these basic HUMAN RIGHTS are people in the pain community being denied at this very moment...? 2-Article 5 states:
"No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment."

Ask any person being denied adequate pain treatment about the torture they endure day in and day out, every minute of the day and night.

@HRW confirmed it.

2-Dr.Sally Satel has been dragged through the mud by many including 'Stat', for daring to state the truth.
“Contrary to media portrayals, the typical OxyContin addict does not start out as a pain patient who fell unwittingly into a drug habit.”… 3-Deceptive marketing??? No more deceptive than alcohol manufacturers showing happy, healthy, young people drinking socially vs the college age alcoholic binge drinking and choking to death on their own vomit. Image

Grievance letter in thread, written in 2014.
Prior to CDC guidelines.
I was dismissed out of hand, told I was 'free to find another healthcare provider'.
Since then, things have gotten far more deadly for people in pain...

To Whom It May Concern:
Let me begin by saying that I feel that my doctor has abandoned me. Kaiser Permanente has made me sign a pain contract under extreme duress and I feel, at the very least, that my patient rights have been violated; if not my civil rights.
