Good and bad news in the new @Nature study on the latest pledges under the Paris Agreement.

First, the good news: If all pledges – up to and including those at #COP26 – were "implemented in full and on time", peak global warming could stay below 2C.

Note, it is only *just* under 2C.

As the paper puts it, "peak warming could be limited to 1.9-2.0C".

So that's not exactly the "well-below 2C" that the Paris Agreement is aiming for.

Interesting back and forth in @NatureEcoEvo on a #corals paper from last year.

The original study concluded that "the global extinction risk of most coral species is lower than previously estimated”.

This conclusion was based on a new estimated total of "approximately half a trillion corals" inhabiting reefs "spanning the Pacific Ocean biodiversity gradient, from Indonesia to French Polynesia".
