Today I spoke in the @Europarl_EN about Moldova and our fight for democracy.

Moldova’s stability is Europe’s stability. Our peace is Europe’s peace.

And if Moldova’s democracy cannot be protected, then no democracy in Europe is safe. On 28 September, Moldova faces the most consequential election in our history.

We must choose: to strengthen our democracy on the path to EU membership — or to fall to Russia’s destabilisation, becoming a threat to Ukraine and to Europe.

Moldova has faced an unprecedented assault on our country’s freedom and democracy, both today and in recent months. Criminal groups, working with foreign forces hostile to our national interests, have attacked our country with tens of millions of euros, lies, and propaganda, using the most disgraceful means to keep our nation trapped in uncertainty and instability.

Moldova🇲🇩 is strongly determined to stay part of the free world. We belong in the #EU. We are a #European country, with a European language, a European history, and a European political system. EU’s values are our values. We are part of #Europe. 🇲🇩🇪🇺 Like never before, the 🇲🇩govt’s commitment to reforming institutions is unquestionable. But building independent, strong institutions takes time. I’m asking #EU to help us tackle the big corruption, recover the stolen money & bring the corrupt fugitives to justice.
