Shaldon Parish Council has cancelled its scheduled beach clean due to undisclosed reasons. However, the beach has been badly affected over recent days by the effects of the storms.—> Image The beach has been gradually eroding since the completion of the flood defences in 2011. Someone has just broken the temperature sensor on the Dawlish wave buoy. I don’t believe this temperature. Will explain why in a reply. Image 13.2°C is the average temperature that you would expect in late May early June. It’s 4°C warmer than the average for March (9°C). I suspect a more realistic temperature is the 11.8°C I noticed earlier today. That’s still very warm but 13.2°C is crazy.—>

There’s only one good thing about having a leak in your waders: it’s your own personal water temperature monitor. Yesterday, was quite warm in the river!

The more accurate official data from the wave buoy off Dawlish shows the water temperature is currently around 10°C. —> That’s despite all those easterly winds churning up cold water. It recently peaked at about 11.°C in February - more than 2.0°C above normal.

Last year saw really high temperatures (up to 22.3°C) which is well above the threshold for harmful bacteria such as Vibrio to grow… —>

Some observations about yesterday’s events in Parliament. Not so much about what happened but why?

First, none of the major parties have covered themselves in glory - none can be proud of themselves. —> The SNP used their opposition day to oppose the Government. That’s a good thing (and something Labour needs to do more often.) However, they also delighted in the opportunity to put Starmer in a difficult position.—>

She asked why people might think she is a fascist. I don’t think she is a fascist but it’s pathetic that that she can’t understand why that accusation has been made. First, she brands herself as “Britain’s toughest headteacher” or something of that ilk. Now someone has to be that but claiming the title seems a bit off. As a good headteacher, she’s probably aware of the role of discipline and youth education in Fascist Italy.—>

Doing some digging on the Standards Committee at Teignbridge and I have just found the most astonishing comment I have ever seen in any set of formal minutes I have reviewed (thousands).

“The powers of the committee are unfortunately limited by law.” democracy.teignbridge.gov.uk/documents/s112… The entire purpose of the Standards Committee is to ensure that the Council operates within the law. That’s easily the most loony toons minute I have ever seen.—>

A message to voters in #TivertonandHoniton. 🧵

I have been a Tory supporter since I was a child. My parents were as Tory as they come, our home hosted MP surgeries. Our front room was often piled high with election literature and envelopes. That is my dad in the photo.➡️ I have had the privilege of meeting 3 Prime Ministers, Macmillan, Heath, and Douglas Home, who came to our home when he was Foreign Secretary. However, there are no circumstances in the world that could bring me to vote for Johnson.➡️

Spoiler alert: real wage growth in the 1970/80s averaged 2.9%. In 1975 when price inflation was 24%, wage inflation was 29%. The three day week was under Ted Heath’s Conservative Government. For balance real wages did fall under the Wilson/Callaghan administration and unemployment began to rise. Again for balance, the fall in real wages under Cameron/May/Johnson since 2010 has been the longest sustained period of decline since the 1870s. ➡️

New Yes Prime Minister script revealed.

Hacker, despondent: “I fear the game may be up Sir Humphrey.”

Sir H: “Fear not, Prime Minister, there is always hope in even the darkest of times.”

Hacker: “How so?”
➡️ Sir H: “There is a recognised plan in place for all such eventualities Prime Minister. The Civil Service is renowned throughout the civilised world and in America for its planning”

Hacker, taps nose: “That didn’t work so well with the pandemic, though did it?”➡️
