In the current climate there are a lot of people rightly calling for and end to the abhorrent system of Direct Provision. In my experience, a lot of Irish people don't really understand what it entails so I thought I would share my thoughts from the perspective of someone who has hung out and made some friends with people in the system. This is not about the legal/technical side - there are plenty of people who can explain that way better than me. It is not a representative opinion - I am very much on the outside looking in, from a position of privilege.

A little thread on #GE2020 (sorry). We all love to spend time giving out about how FFFG have failed us. It's a bit like therapy isn't it? BUT (hear me out), would that time be better spent elsewhere? Like, for example, getting out for an evening canvassing or delivering leaflets with your local progressive candidate? (You can still give out to your heart's content while walking between houses). Think of it this way: if you want to see a change, and would like more progressive representation, getting out to vote is brilliant. That's one important vote
