Illinois ends cash bail on Sunday.

⚠️ PAY ATTENTION ⚠️ Just a few weeks, maybe days, after Illinois ends cash bail, you'll start hearing claims that "crime is out of control" & "people released without having to pay a bond are get rearrested".

The people making these claims will exploit existing dynamics to try & roll back reforms.

People are massing up down the block from Mayor Lightfoot's house to demand justice for people brutalized by Chicago Police at the #DecolonizeZhigaagoong action and that Lightfoot take cops out of Chicago public schools and #DefundCPD.

Lightfoot's block is barricaded by CPD. #BlackLivesMatter demonstrators have shut down the intersection outside Mayor Lightfoot's house chanting "fuck Lori Lightfoot!"

Moments later, police issued an order to disperse and are threatening arrests.

Local news stations are one of the main drivers of police violence and incarceration.

Networks regularly spin stories to create false narratives about violence and crime in our communities even if they contradict facts they are aware of because it's good for ratings. Local news networks will exploit tradgey in our communities and ignore positive changes.

Crime & shootings in Chicago are at historic lows that should be celebrated, instead local networks focus on a handful of incidents and help bring the boot down on marginalized communities.

I didn't think I was going to need to do this but......

Y'all, we need to talk about Lori Lightfoot. She has spent the last several months pretending she was the most progressive candidate for mayor and just picked up an Sun-Times endorsement but:

LIGHTFOOT IS NOT A PROGRESSIVE Lori Lightfoot served as Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois in the criminal division from 1996–2002.

Y'all, it's time to talk about Bill Daley.

As of January 25th, a Sun-Times poll showed Daley taking 12.1% of the vote with 25% of voters still undecided. It seems certain that Bill Daley will wind up in the mayoral runoff. You should be concerned. Daley's number one priority is crime. In fact, it's the only issue he his campaign has taken the to lay out a full policy platform on. Unsurprisingly, Daley wants to address crime by throwing even more resources toward policing and incarceration.

Chicago police shot and killed someone at 71st & Chappell today. People from the community have gathered at the scene, CPD have attacked and arrested at least one demonstrator. CPD just charged their own barricade and attacked the peaceful demonstration at 71st & Chappell where CPD killed someone earlier today. Many people were just arrested.
