Thread: Just been overcome with fury for the selfishness of Boris Johnson again. When his own party was so disgusted with his never-ending scandals ... he refused to leave immediately as asked simply because that would make him the shortest lived PM in history.
1/6
They wanted to put in a caretaker PM to keep government working ... but no ... he wanted to be there a few days longer than Theresa May! Since then he has been on holiday twice and refused to do anything about the growing cost of living and energy crises like a spoilt child

Omicron Omicron everywhere
You can catch it here, you can catch it there
It spreads on the bus and it spreads on the train
And if you've been jabbed you can catch it again
You can catch it in shops or the gym or the pub
Or out at a restaurant buying some grub
And if you think staying at home’s what to do
Your kids in the schools bring it back home to you!
But surely, you say, we are up to the task
The government tells us to all wear a mask
And all of us wear them except those who don’t
Who couldn’t be bothered, or shan’t or who won’t

I can't believe the numbers of Brexiters who have tried to excuse the government's turning down of the EU's offer of 90 days visa-free touring for UK artists after my tweets about it today.
None of them know what they're talking about ... and yet they continue to argue ...
They think the visa-free 90 days for tourists is the same as a working visa.
They don't realise the US has this deal with the EU.
They don't know what carnets are.
And yet they argue. And when they lose the argument they insult me and suggest I change my career.

Here's Michael Gove promising us what Brexit would mean in order to get us to vote for it.
"we would be part of a free trade zone that extends from Iceland to the Russian border" ... "we would have full access to the European market be we'd be freed from EU regulation"
And here's Michael Gove yesterday telling us:
"It is the case that in the weeks ahead we expect that there will be significant additional disruption" ... "we have to redouble our efforts to relay the precise paperwork required to make sure that trade can flow freely"

Good night for the last time Eggnog ... she started visiting us about 2 years ago. She would come in the house unannounced and sit on our sofa to watch TV with us ... then she was given to us by her real owner at the beginning of lockdown.
Thread: Boris Johnson has just awarded his friend David Ross, the Carphone Warehouse owner worth £700 million, £85k for a private opera company in his house from the funds designated for struggling arts venues/orgs. Meanwhile many that serve our communities got nothing. Nada. 1/4
When I say David Ross was Boris Johnson's friend, I mean he has given him free luxury stays worth £15k on the private island of Mustique in the Caribbean. You know ... the one Johnson was on in February when he should have been preparing for Coronavirus. 2/4

We lived with measles without a vaccine until the 1960s ... before then 500 kids a year died from it in the US. At no time did we "develop herd immunity" to it. Covid is more deadly. 200k have died from it in the US this year.
Herd immunity without vaccination is nonsense.
With a systematic vaccination programme, most Western countries got to a stage where so many were immunised that the few unvaccinated people were at little risk of catching it. The term "herd immunity" was used to describe that situation. The US eliminated measles in 2000.

Thread: I'm becoming suspicious of a theme developing in various news outlets this month telling us of amazing discoveries that we suddenly might not need so many medicines/radio-isotopes just as a no-deal Brexit which will create medical shortages looms in to sight 1/62/6 So here was the first one: Painkillers might not do any good for chronic pain ... 3rd August - The Daily Mail
Thread: Watching the government shitting themselves and engineering story after story to try and dilute the coming Russia Report revelations is really quite funny. But this method of flooding the compliant media with other news DOES work ... and it's dangerous. 1/2/ They know that the majority of the public are just far too busy trying to earn money, pay the mortgage, bring up children, drinking themselves to death ... news to most is just a noise in the background unless the story is huge. They have so much support from most newspapers

I just thought I'd do a short thread to explain my twitter name change today as several disingenuous accounts have accused me of using my blue tick to impersonate the chancellor.
It's a sort of joke. It's not going to be forever. And I welcome todays announcement ... but ...
... I do feel like Rishi Sunak's performing monkey. I feel degraded. I see Daily Mail readers trotting out the old ignorant tropes about the performing arts, calling us luvvies, which is basically the same as children in the playground who still think "gay" is an insult in 2020

You can love your country without saluting a flag, without agreeing with your government, without excluding people who don't come from your country. I love my country really deeply. I love its geography, I love its pre-history, I love every bend of a hill I know and love ...
... I love the weather, I love the subversive sense of humour, I love queuing in a Post Office, I love knowing the old common names of plants which grow in the hedgerow. I love Irish people, Polish people, Black people ... I suppose I just love people ...

Thread: this is not being widely covered and it should be because it's deeply sinister.
Yesterday concerned parents contacted @stellacreasy about pro-Brexit propaganda being broadcast on primary school digital noticeboards.
These pictures are clearly targeted at children 1/9
There has been some coverage about this: a story in Metro and some great threads from @nicktoluhurst along with concern from Walthamstow MP @stellacreasy 2/9
The rapid rise of the "Tax Payers Alliance" on prominent BBC politics panels is massively worrying and should be challenged ... they're an anonymously funded far-right wing think tank, not a grass-roots popular movement as their name implies. #Marr
Chloe Westley has been on Question Time, Daily Politics and now #Marr ... she's not given great performances despite clear media training. Taxpayers alliance clearly want people to pay almost no taxes ... sounds great until you think about it for a second 👎 bye bye NHS.

Thread: People don't realise that the A303 is older than Stonehenge and probably the reason it's there in the first place!
Natural roads are one of the most important bits of visible human archaeology showing where people have chosen to travel for millenia.
