You'll find No one who was more excited for #BabyJohn than me. But the nicest thing I can say about this jumpy, disjointed, uneven ride is that it's Atlee lite. Kalees isn't able to muster that massy Theri magic (this is a scene for scene remake). Why can't we have nice things :( Forget style, which the film is barely able to conjure in moments, Baby John is a technical mess. The sound is awful (might just be my screen) but the way the score and dialogue overlap and drown and each other out is just shoddy. Visually too there's an odd flatness to it.

Right, it's movie time. Here's a look at the big takeaways from the viewership of Netflix India films from Netflix's What We Watched In The Second Half of 2023 Report Context wise - these aren't necessarily movies released in 2023, just those that were significantly watched in the second half of 2023, (there are just over 9000 in total) even if they were released in the past.

First up, let's talk big highlights

Some interesting, juicy things that jumped out at me about the viewership of Netflix India titles from Netflix's What We Watched In The Second Half of 2023 Report

You can find the full report here:

(Warning - it's a spreadsheet of 15000 titles)

about.netflix.com/en/news/what-w… Context wise - the report is a list of the (9000+) movies and (6500+) shows that got more than 100,000 views (total hours viewed divided by runtime) in the second half of 2023.

#TeriBaatonMeinAisaUljhaJiya was...quite something. Good Lord. As Bonkers as it is Deeply, uncomfortably creepy. But credit where it's due, you're never bored. I'll be thinking about this movie more than movies I actually like this year. Some *spoilery thoughts* ahead
What starts as a fun, high energy, sci-fi-ish rom com goes to creepy as fuck #IfKabirSinghWasASoftwareEngineer before ending in full blown thriller territory.

#TheArchies just didn’t work for me unfortunately. Didn’t think it was possible but Zoya Akhtar has made such a …low energy film (doing my best here not to use the word “dull” coz that would break my heart). It’s all pretty packaging but I rarely felt much for anyone. And damn do you feel that length.

I think there’s even a scene where one of the parents says : Tum dikhte kaise ho..yeh important nahi hai. Tum feel kya karte ho? My point exactly.

Some *Spoiler-filled* thoughts:

On 2 years of @ShoojitSircar’s #October – here are some (okay many) thoughts I had on the revisiting a truly special film #2YearsOfOctober. Shantanu Moitra’s score, Shoojit Sircar, Juhi Chaturvedi’s writing, Avid Mukhopadhyay’s cinematography and Chandrashekhar Prajapati’s editing all came together beautifully to create.. a feeling in a film which felt like a distant memory but one many of us will always cherish.
