Fascinatingly different perspectives on how to tackle the innovators dilemma. @cagan and @mattmochary have opposing views and both provide examples. Both say they haven't seen the other approach succeed.
The innovators dilemma is a theory by Clayton Christiansen: When you have an established business it's hard to disrupt yourself. It always feels smarter to make the current product 10% better than invest in a new product that could have X10 returns and kill your business.

I'm doing some research on how the senior IC part of the dual track career ladder in #productmanagement works.
Looking to speak to Staff PMs, Principal PMs, Distinguished PMs and other very senior individual contributors.
Intros and RT appreciated🙏

As a thank you to interviewees I'll provide a donation to your chosen charity and/or do some pro-bono coaching for you or another product person of your choosing.
I'll also write up my findings to share with the wider #prodmgmt community.
Who should I speak to?

As a hiring manager I've noticed that the single thing most #ProductMgmt people struggle with in interviews is metrics.
Most pms struggle to beyond generic metrics like retention.
Here are a few questions I use to coach PMs on choosing the right metrics to measure success.
In order to measure success you need to ground the metric in the user's goals.
1. What problem does this problem / feature solve for this user?
2. What is success for this user? Specifically what do they do, how do they feel, what don't they have to do anymore or as much.
