TW: intimate partner violence.
On Nov. 26, 2021 Mr. Jeffrey MacLean called 911 and told the operator his wife was “bleeding like a stuck pig”. Mr. MacLean’s lips were covered in his wife’s blood because he was whispering in her ear “I hope you f-ing die”. 1/8 #bcpoli #IPV #bclaw
Mr. MacLean was charged with assault causing bodily harm + resisting or obstructing a peace officer, charges were stayed August 2023 due to the Jordan decision, too much time had passed. 2/8 #bcpoli #IPV #bclaw

🧵My friend's dad has been in Eagle Ridge Hospital for 8 months, it's been a nightmare.
Bob (dad) has moved rooms/ beds 20 times, he's seen so many doctors, nurses + social workers it's impossible to keep track.
I imagine this is happening to other families.

Bob was admitted to Eagle Ridge for a heart attack June 2023, he was 92 yrs old with multiple health issues. Bob was treated + provided with options (stent or pacemaker) he declined both, he was not interested in life preserving measures. He wanted to be home. #BCHC #bcpoli 2/12

🧵It’s impossible to prepare yourself for the first time your disabled child (or child with disability - depending on your preference) is excluded. My son has Down syndrome, exclusion is familiar. The specifics vary but the underlying reason is always the same. 1/9 #vanpoli
Ableism deems some less human + their needs, rights + presence non-essential or worse. I have connected with thousands of people through shared pain, we show up for each other. Always. 2/9 #vanpoli

🧵x ten.
My son is starting grade 10. He didn’t go to school today because his ‘program’ doesn’t start until tomorrow. You see, he’s in a segregated program. He doesn’t have a homeroom class + doesn’t experience high school like his typical peers. 1/10 #bced
The program is called LifeSkills. Today I discovered all #LifeSkills programs in Vancouver will end an hour early once a week, for the ENTIRE school year. This is so program teachers/support staff can collaborate. That’s about 38 instruction hours lost. 2/10 #bced
