The #GivingTuesday thread nobody asked for and even fewer wanted. But today was a RIDE and there are some things to be said and some to learn. I'll take heat for this, but some like it hot . . .
My thoughts on GT have evolved. No secret early on I was an eyeroller (1/x)
Simply put, it is a global phenomenon that drives tremendous results and any charity that isn't participating is potentially missing out. Donors like it and they give. BIG. Huge driver for new donors, increased giving, recurring . . . we'll see the stats (2/x)
Some days I wonder why I've decided to focus on data. It's not sexy, it's hard for some folks, it gets relegated to the realm of the geeks & the nerds, and it's a little harder to measure the direct impact it can have /1 . . .
And I'm not an analyst or statistician. What I do is usually some pretty good filtering, sorting, basic formulas, and the (life-giving) Pivot Table here and there. Usually looking for anomalies where data is missing or digging into historical giving. Nothing earth shattering /2
