New details regarding the preventable death of an 8-year-old girl in CBP custody last week show that the child’s mother repeatedly asked agents to take her daughter to the hospital, but her pleas were ignored. Anadith had a history of heart problems and sickle cell anemia.🧵👇🏾
She was experiencing trouble breathing, difficulty walking, and pain in her bones after being held in custody for NINE days. Despite her mother’s repeated attempts to get medical attention for her daughter, the little girl was left to suffer and eventually die in their custody.

Unacceptable. President Biden just announced that he is planning to use Title 42 to expel many Cuban, Nicaraguan, and Haitian migrants to Mexico, while simultaneously allowing a much smaller number of people to enter the United States by air on humanitarian grounds.👇🏾
We cannot say this enough; Asylum is a legal and human right. Cherry-picking people from specific countries undermines the rule of law that guarantees people, regardless of country, race, ethnicity or language, the right to seek protection through a fundamentally fair proceeding.
