We have a family of 4.
We fly frequently.
I have not purchased a plane ticket for personal use, for anyone in our family in over a decade.
I am not a roadwarrior for work.
Here’s how we do it.

1/ @SouthwestAir gives you “companion pass status” once you hit 135,000 points.

Companion pass status means you name one person and they fly with you for FREE ANYTIME you fly. For a full calendar year.

My husband and I both have our own Southwest credit cards.

I over pay my kids for things I’d like them to do like: Not have to be reminded to make their lunches, practice their instruments, exercise, read a mom selected book etc…

I charge my kids for things I don’t wan them to do: not completing the requested tasks, arguing, complaining etc.

They now pay for everything themselves. It’s been a game changer. Camps, snacks, birthday party gifts, even hygiene, we never hear them ask us for anything material.

Today my daughter said she’d like to go back to horseback riding and I told her she could pay for it if she wanted to do it.

She told me she’s really liked this method of her paying for her own things. A number of you have asked to see one of the daily quest sheets.

This has been evolving over the past few years with a number of different strategies and methods. I change these things daily.

Yes it’s work, but considering how wonderful the pay off has been, it’s very much worth it.

I hesitate to share as this is opening me up to loads of criticism and even more questions.

I want to remind you these kids pay for any dental work that is due to lack of maintenance etc.

These sheets are different for each child.

As these quests become habits I remove them from the list. I also gradually lower payment.

You’ll notice I pay my kid for having a good attitude in a class where she hates the teacher. Every day she’d come home complaining about him, and it would ruin the afternoon.

I don’t have making their beds on the list because we don’t take them to school if their beds aren’t made. They both like to be punctual- so that works for us.

I tend to pay them weekly but I’m
thinking paying them daily may help.

You’ll notice one day she made a lot of $ and another she owed, this is typical.

Yesterday I did a random spot check on my teenager’s phone.

Scrolled through her texts….I am so glad I did.

We have all the parental controls on my daughter’s device.

We use a 3rd party app to control access to games time spent on the device.
1/ He claimed to have her phone number in his phone and didn’t know who it was so was texting her to find out. She thought it could have been a friend of hers from camp.

(we didn’t realize she could receive texts from unknown numbers, historically that feature was unavailable) 2/

I did a girl's trip to an upscale AirBNB in a luxury high-rise in LA. Late one evening we got off the elevator & saw an odd couple walking down the hallway, they weren't holding hands, they weren't talking & he was much older than her. 1/ A friend chuckled that he had purchased company for the night.
