Over 80,000 Jews perished during the Nazi occupation of Greece from 1941, mostly from Salonika.
But one Greek-Jewish family survived: the family of Haimaki Cohen. That is he, his wife, Rachel, daughter Tilde, and son Alfred.
They were saved by Prince Philip’s mother, Alice.
Prince Philip’s mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, was born deaf, and yet she taught herself 4 languages fluently. English, German, French and Greek.
The latter was acquired after marrying Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark.
Shown here with her Naval father, Prince Louis.

Mini-thread Regarding Old Age and the British Royal Family. 🧵
Cynics amongst us might say, of course royalty live to a ripe-old age. They do nothing, and have a phalanx of medical doctors around them. Whilst it is true about the attending physicians, unlike for the majority of us, duties continue WELL into old age when you’re royal.

Thread for the Historical Manipulation of Royal Photographs. 🧵
I am writing up this thread because I have the historical knowledge and observational skills built on decades of study. I was almost going to launch it during the skilfully airbrushed follicles on the Duke of Sussex in one magazine cover, but thought it would be catty.

Thread on Recent Marriages in the British Royal Family. 🧵
Marriages are tricky things. Often the most successful marriages are precluded on one partner doing the majority of the loving, whilst the other provides comfort and support. That is no less true of the British Royal Family, and this thread will show you why.

I leave you with these images. When photographer Freddy Fabris was having work done on his car, he was suddenly inspired to make his mechanics into Renaissance paintings.
The series of photos that resulted are nothing short of astounding!

It’s 2023. And this is what a Polish LARP group dedicated to dressing like contemporary Americans is doing.
Consider this the best 🧵 you’ll see today.
Of all of these, this is my favourite. 😁

You know why I hate the hippies? Because they were ingrates.
Look at the world that Boomers grew up in. LOOK AT THIS. This is beautiful.

🧵Thread on Tragedies and Mishaps Before During and After a Notable Royal Event. #Coronation
Everyone loves a Royal Wedding!
Except when it turns into an unmentionable gore-fest as it did on 31 May 1906, during the wedding of King Alfonso XIII and his British bride, Princess Victoria-Eugenie of Battenberg. The following is an account of that shocking day.

BREAKING NEWS: Buckingham Palace under lockdown after man threw shotgun cartridges at the Palace gates around 7 PM GMT. The King and Queen are safe. Developing.
I think you all know my deepest fear ahead of this Coronation is some protester slash lunatic doing this very kind of thing. I thank God that Britons do not have easy access to weapons like handguns.

Mum and I watched the Channel 7 Aussie special on the Markles. If you want to catch it (about 20 mins long), you can check it out on YouTube.
Apparently, due to Samantha Markle’s MS and dad Tom Sr’s health woes, the two hadn’t seen each other until Channel 7 flew both dad and son to meet Sam at her Tampa home. It was very very touching seeing the reunion.

UPDATE: Showed mum the Typhoon patricidal anecdote in Prince Harry’s Spare. And then let her HEAR it from the audiobook.
Wow, guys, wow. You and I pick up a lot, but there’s nothing like a psychiatrist interpreting what is in the subconscious. I’ll be back to tell you later.
Remember that no one can interpret or diagnose a person who is not their patient. Having said that, I’ve made some hasty notes from my conversation with my mother, a psychiatrist, specialising in child psychology.

This adorable little duo consist of Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques of Monaco. They are the cutest things! And so so close to each other.
Little Prince Jacques looks like his grandma, Grace Kelly of Philadelphia, doesn’t he?

UPDATE: HM Constantine II, King of the Hellenes, being eulogised by his son and Heir, Pavlos, in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens on Monday. His widow, Queen Anne-Marie, born Princess of Denmark, ravaged by grief listening to her son. She had been married in that Cathedral.
Wow, now that Queen Anne-Marie is older, I notice the incredible facial resemblance between Queen Sofia, King Constantine’s sister, and herself!
They do say that when men marry, they tend not to choose women who remind them of their mothers, but their sisters.

Patricia Neal, who was married to the writer Ronald Dahl, was part of that cadre of actresses typecast by Hollywood as “The Rich Dame”.
What other American actresses can you think were in that category?
One actress that immediately comes to mind is Mrs Thurston Howell III, “Lovey” from Gilligan’s Island. Natalie Shafer.
I was watching an old I Love Lucy episode the other day, and saw she played the part of a charm school instructor.
This is supposed to be aged-progressed Diana?!! This looks my dad’s only sister. I’M SHOOK.

Queen Mary and her granddaughter, the future Elizabeth II, at George VI’s coronation. This photo is astonishing, not just because it shows an intimate moment between the two. But because it wasn’t supposed to happen. Queen Dowagers traditionally DO NOT attend coronations.
Fellow monarchs are not invited to attend a British coronation, so don’t expect to see any foreign royalty attend King Charles’ coronation next year. The idea is that the British monarch should be the only King or Queen garnering attention that day, a most sacred moment.

🖼 In commemoration of Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s first month death anniversary, I present you “The Queen’s Stained Glass Window” at Westminster Abbey.
It was designed by David Hockney and installed in 2018.
The Queen’s Window is in the north transept of the Abbey, next to statues of former Prime Ministers (Peel, Gladstone, Disraeli). Hockney chose an idyllic country scene to represent Her Majesty’s vaunted countrywoman tastes.
He designed it on his iPad.

Guys, the PayPal thing. Not good. But I just read that they’ll come after you for your social media posts. This situation is bad enough without adding misinformation and frankly, hysteria, to it.
One of the things that really bothers me about the right-wing, especially the Trump variety, is this quality of hysteria that masquerades as concern. I feel so discomfited by it. It might eventually cause me to stop voting. I doubt it. But that’s how I feel at times.
