[Thread] Primitive brick manufacturing is one of the worst polluting industries in #Iraq.

Passing by Nahrawan (35km South of Baghdad) you will see smog and roll up your windows. 300 factories once stood there in 1988. Number is down now.

Why primitive? #ClimateCrisis

(1/8) Factories were designed in 1920/30s (under British mandate) and still use methods used in medieval times.

Dirt is excavated from nearby quarries, shaped into bricks, dried under sun in yards then put into donkey carts.

Dried bricks then enter primitive kilns..
